Kyle Hines announced his retirement from basketball today after a 16 year career in Europe.

I think this wasn't too much of a surprise given there had been no updates on him over the summer.

After the recent retirements of Sergio Rodriguez and Rudy Fernandez, another Euroleague legend has left the court. All three have played in this competition for so long that it will be strange no longer watching them. Feels like an end of an era, even though some veterans remain.

I really want to make a comment about Hines. Why are people so obsessed with him? I saw tributes from a lot of players, coaches, journalists...am I crazy or he is a little bit overrated? Okay, he is 4 time EL champion. But Vorontsevich is 3 times EL champion and he is not top 100 PFs in the history of the EL. He won 3 times award for the best defender. That's great but Dunston has 2 and I feel like if he retired today he wouldn't get 20% of the attention which Hines got. And Dunston overall has better numbers in the offense and is great defender. So I am a little bit stunned why is everyone praising Hines this mucu...it feels to me like LeBron retired how highly they speak about him.

Hines was a good guy, always the 4th or 5th best player on his teams and never acted like a jerk like rudy for example. Thats the reason he is respected by everyone and because of his smaller size (just height though cause his wingspan was bigger than others being 2.10+).

Of course he is not the best center in modern euroleague, not even top5 i would say and in a league where batiste was a part of for many years the discussion ends there. Batiste has been by far the best center in euroleague the last 2 decades. Then others like vujcic, vesely, tavares etc who are of course different kind of players
      Sasa Pukl for MVP

        He is to me.
Seriously though, I think for Hines it is a combination of factors. He's an extremely popular and respected player, involved in the ELPA etc. And like saras already wrote, being undersized (in height terms) but playing with so much heart was part of his appeal. Also, 16 years in Europe for an American player is pretty incredible in itself, plus being so decorated, being a key piece on the Oly teams of 2012 and 13. And look... the guy even helped Milano get to a F4.

This is the best compliment for Hines

            RIP Asim Pars.

Gone too soon at 48. Did he have health issues or was it sudden?

Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

That's a shame man. What dark thoughts can go through a person's mind to do this.

Goes to show, doesnt matter who someone is... rich/ famous they carry their own demons.
