How did you do in your pre-season predictions? EL2023/24

How well do you think you did in your pre-season predictions? in terms of power rankings, player performances, coaching choices, etc.

I could not find the thread where we talked about these, but I clearly remember a few things:

- Efes story: I did not have high hopes from Can, but supported the experiment. I was wrong in a few ways, but the eventual placement was in line with my prediction. Thompson has been a failure, Willis did much better than I hoped, Larkin's attitude disappointed me, Clyburn was the cancer just as I feared.

- PAO story; completely failed, I thought they should be happy if they make the playoffs. Basketball genius here ; Ataman like most people I half-expected him to be fired before Xmas and half-expected to exceed the expectations. but nowhere near the title, obviously. Lessort & Grant especially also did well beyond my expectations.

- Real Madrid: No surprises until the final, dominated the season as expected, but I failed in my prediction that they would win it all.

- Barcelona: They did much better than I thought, placing the 3rd in the RS, but they failed in the end, kinda proving me right. I give myself a pass.

- Olympiakos: I placed them among the top 4, a rare opinion at IBN, and proven right in the end. Goss was pretty good, I expected a lot more from Milutinov though.

- Fenerbahce story: F4 was a surprise, I did not see them beating Monaco. I also underestimated Saras. I think he did evolve and did better than most people gave him credit for. Still some ways to go as proven in the F4. I failed at my Calathes prediction as well, he was amazing all season long. but I was spot on about Wilbekin .

- Maccabi: I placed them right below Real, but I give myself a pass due to the war situation. Good season anyway. Rivero did well as I expected, which was another rare opinion.

- Virtus/Baskonia did better, as Baskonia always does, and Partizan surprised me. I had them in the top 6. All 3 failed predictions for me.

I can't find my posts with predictions so maybe I'm retconing reality but here is what I thought:

- Real Madrid: Ok that was easy, I think all of us considered them favorites for the trophy.

- I believe that my next favorites for F4 where Oly, Fener, Partizan. So 3/4 total for F4 is not bad, but the failure of predicting Partizan's year maybe skews my prediction score too much To be honest though, Fener's spot seems more luck, than an actual prediction. What I mean is that I arrived at the correct result, using wrong calculations

- Panathinaikos: What can I say? I'm glad I was wrong. I thought we would be fighting for a playoff spot because I truly believe that teams are being built step by step but Ataman completely "refuted" (for a lack of a better word) me. If this guy tell me that the sun comes out from the West I need to believe him now

- Monaco, Barcelona: I think they did kinda close to what I was expecting. Ending up high in the regular season but not making the F4. I was giving Barcelona more chances to maybe replace Fener.

I don't remember if I had an opinion for the rest of the teams. Watch someone digging up an old post of mine where nothing of what I just posted is true

I knew Panathinaikos will be good, not the champion but fighting in the playoffs for the F4. I expected them around 5th place if I remember correctly. I know I was one of the few that didn't believe in Partizan. Olympiacos did better than I expected. Barca the same. I falied about Maccabi the most. I thought they are going to fight for the play-in at best and at the end they were the toughest opponent for Pao. Also expected Efes to be better.

Yeah, I remember you believed in PAO's F4 chances from the start. The main argument against was the expected pitfalls of a newly built team, but what we witnessed was a great cohesion in the latter part of the season.

3 teams were in my focus

I was right all the time about Efes and their chances with clown Can
I was right about wilbeclown but failed about Fener, because Calathes and Biberovic saved us in crutial games. But overall I was right that player who was predicted as a leader is nothing but a clown, good just for unimportant games
I failed about CZ, but the main reason were injuries and Shabazz departure, change coach etc. But at the end they even proved I was right with easy 3-0 sweeping Partizan

It is known during the season Real Madrid is first favourte, but they could fail it like many else favourites in the past, right behind them is Panathinaikos and maybe Fenerbahce who can make danger to them.
I m little bit surprised Olympiacos were on F4,at the beginning I considered them under.
Baskonia is suprise. They have roster for 15th place.
Any else circumstantially are one or two places up or under.
Panathinaikos have had good players who also can be good team. They had a lot of troubles during the season, they found the right way in last few months.
I wrote after win in RS in Madrid, if they would make good results, one of the turning point it will be this win.
Afterward, it was very important how they overcame many troubles and problems in qf series vs Maccabi.

Both Serbian teams suprised me in negative way.
I expected at least that Zvezda is going to fight for play-in until the end but like janketa said there was Shabazz Napier case, injuries and coach change but anyways this season for Zvezda in EL was total failure, on the other hand Zvezda destroyed Partizan in ABA finals 3:0, won Serbian cup and most likley will win Serbian league (Partizan struggle even with Mega there).
For Partizan i didnt expected top 4-6 like a lot of people, but at least i expected play-offs because team is there for 3 years with Obradovic and big budget but also their season is failure.

Panathinaikos and Maccabi suprised me in positive way, Maccabi was even equal team in play-off duel against Panathinaikos and fighted hard until the end. Panathinaikos showed at the end that they are best team in Euroleague and they deserved that title. At the start of season hardly anyone could have predict that Panathinaikos will win the title with new coach and new team. Nunn arrival was crucial one for this successful PAO season.
