According to DPG (so you know, there is a good chance it's not true) he is prepared to spend a shit ton of money to Make Pao Great Again (MPGA hats pending).

To that end it seems like we've hired Ataman which I personally don't super like but at the very least he is a EL veteran and under his guidance Efes played some amazing bball. So I don't have a leg to stand on to complain, he is a solid choice in terms of decorated coaches. But I still have a feeling that he is not a technically sound coach. Anyway, we'll see. It could have been much worse.

I believe we wanted to hire Becirovic as GM? Did that happen? No idea. It would be a great idea to have another level of separation between DPG and the team.

I haven't heard a single rumour about big transfers for Pao (other than that we were giving Campazzo a bunch of money but he wats to go to Real) which is a bit weird. I would expect rumours about trying to spend millions to get amazing players that in the end would ignore us and we would be reverting to spending 30k to bring some bball tourists.

DPG should make less statements and more actions. He tends to make fool of himself and probably that is why he couldn't sign Lasso or Pascual and Ataman was the only one wiling to come..

On the flipside, there is a reason, imho, Ataman took a risk and went to PAO. He couldn't find a better job, which goes on to show he's not really highly regarded in the EL.

Now, potentially, there's an interesting situation in Turkey. If Efes matches up with Telekom (1st place) in the TBL playoffs, Ataman will face his replacement (Erdem Can). If I know him a little, Efes will play the best basketball of the season and sweep that series.

Ataman is several times the better coach today, but Can might be the future. That means Efes may have to live through "the process".

PS. Some wild rumors for you guys. Not sure if shared earlier somewhere. I heard from U. Akıncıoğlu, a reliable analyst/scout.

According to sportando we want punter and hezonja. Hezonja will sure be one of those that the team will pursue if he is available. I think he fits better as a PF as he proved yesterday.
On the hand punter. We have already agreed with vildoza, getting punter means that vildoza will be used mainly as a PG or will they share the position? we also want campazzo and mike james is also on the radar. so i think vildoza is actually going to be used purely as a SG.

whats sure is that next year the team will have one of the highest budgets in the league if all those names are actually true (all those names we hear cost 1,5M/year or even more)

Btw its funny some people mock ataman,the only coach after gershon with a back2back title (would be 3peat if not with fakevirus in 2020). most of those people mocking ataman are those who prefer sfairopoulos or trinchieri as coaches.both of whom with many titles on their resume (thats where we laugh).

maybe the timezone difference with USA is the reason you dont hear news about panathinaikos. becirovic is already the GM of the team, he was even in the meeting with ataman 2 weeks ago. vildoza is also a player of the team already, 1.7M/year (i dont think he deserves that much but im not the who will pay him)

I never said that Ataman is a joke, but his antics and limited (in years) success show a coach that *might* have benefited from his players. As always I hope he is a genius and that we’ll get 5 EL titles with him.

Yes, Gershon failed miserably and not only in Greece. Even with Maccabi after those two magical seasons during which he coached a superb roster he didn't impress at all when he returned to Israel (2008-10), almost everyone was wondering how to get rid of him.


So the point is, will Yannacopoulos and the manager he will choose be able to bring stars like Larkin and Micic? Because Ataman got used to work with such talents exploiting their potential.

Otherwise with a weak roster like the actual one or even a bit stronger he risks a rapid collision with such a big name.

But i guess only ataman benefita from his players, laso winning the trophies cause of llull,chacho,doncic is coaching work. Btw micic was backup pg to pangos in zalgiris before ataman and larkin was a failure in the nba, both with low contacts. Now they are the most paid players in europe, so maybe they are the ones who were benefited from ataman and not vise versa.

Im waiting your reply on how ataman was benefited by them, while coming to efes as eurocup winner and making efes climb from last position to 3 finals (would be 4) in a row the next 4 years and winning 2(would be 3 if not the fake pfizer virus) of them. According to many journalists (and not the ones from dpg media), they are trying to create the most talented backcourt in eurolegue. Thats why they have already gotten vildoza and the names we are going after are campazzo, james, punter etc, all of whom will be some of the highest paid ones next year

Jones is an undersized but athletic center. He is really not a bad defender, can stay in front of wings and some guards. His timing for blocking shots and his motor are good. His touch around the rim is average but his character is weak. Causes too much problems within games and is supposed to be poisenous in the locker room. Hard to handle.

Additionally, he will have problems to defend low post actions from bigger centers.

Bouteille is a good shooter who doesnt offer much more. A borderline EL guy.

Prepelic option for Panathinaikos...I guess that means Grigonis and especially Thomas definitely out. I don't know but as a fan after last couple of misery years it's nice to see Panathinaikos rumoured as a destination to big names and not some average EC players. Finally Giannakopoulos is splashing money...after 2017,18...

I knew this was coming so that's why I said "in years" as in longevity. Not just number of titles.

You think that I want Ataman to fail. That is objectively false. I want Pao to be great again. I want us to fight for F4 spots and cups. I'm not against our team. I merely expressed my opinion that Ataman has not convinced me a sound coach and a serious person. That's all. Why do you need to go to bat for him like that?

Gerson, the coach who was eliminated by zalgiris loosing the chance to play home f4 with the roster he had!! because we have two way to consider gerson career: the fact zalgiris scored one ft or dont. not mentioning sharp miracle. what a mediocre coach!
