  • The Rising Star of EB 2022

10 potential Rising Stars of Eurobasket. List could be more impressive with Banchero, Victor Wembanyama, Jovic, Pokusevski, Jeremy Sochan, Alocen, maybe even guys like Hukporti, Tubelis and others, but still nice list. I think Žiga Samar could be mentioned too.

BTW, why Aldama is not with Spain? Not good enough yet? Didn't come?

MUNICH (Germany) - The lineup for FIBA EuroBasket 2022 is as star-studded as ever with the biggest names in basketball set to step out in Europe’s flagship event in just September.

The Rising Star of EB 2022

A good amount of elite U-22 players will feature in this tournament. All these names already have considerable roles in their teams, so who is most likely to have a break-out tournament? I would like to hear your opinions.
Sports is not only considered as a superiority of physical capability. Perception, intelligence and morality assist it as well. The strong with less intelligence and comprehension can not cope with the less strong but with sufficient intelligence and comprehension. I like the sportsman who is intelligent, agile as well as morally upright.

Well in order to have a breakout tournament two condicions must be met. The team must be successful and the player must be a pillar of the team.

Garuba is too limited offensively. A very good defender but he cant carry his team with mere defense and Spain is not very strong to have a run this time.

Considerable role and impact will come from the German player Franz Wagner but it is more than doubtful that Germany has the strength to reach even the QF but my main if it comes to the best stats.

One other main guy is our guy Alperen Sengün. He has been struggling to find his role in the Turkish team but he will have the minutes and the big role especially after the second half of the Serbian game. He will a solid tournament but its doubtful what the team is going to reach. A loss in the first knock out stage and even semi finals are possible.

Rokas Jokubaitis is the other guy who I am going to follow closely. I dont think that he will shine with enormous stats just because of the strong group but on the other hand there are many teams who risk his shot. We will see if he can fill a big role as the main faciliator of the team. I think Grigonis will take the major responsibility.

I dont expect Israel to make it out of the group so Deni Avdija wont shine either. He is a good wing defender but is still too limited offensively.

Italy doesnt have a solid big and they try to survive with Melli and Biligha who are both fairly undersized but they have a good chemistry. Despite all the positive points I dont expect them to be very impactful as a team. Nevertheless Nico Mannion is the most experienced young player with the most matured skill set of all these guys. Just his ability to create his shot is special. His role wont be as big as of Wagners or Sengüns in his team though.

      My big three are:

      1. Franz Wagner
      2. Alperen Sengün
      3. Nico Mannion

I voted for R. Jakubaitis as the basketball player I know best who will play a very important role not only in Barcelona, but also in the Lithuanian national team, he will be the main ball distributor for our centers JV and DS. I think Grigonis will concentrate more on finishing the attacks or even finishing the last second attack.
I think the top three will be (not necessarily in order):
          Rokas Jokubaitis
          Franz Wagner
          Nico Mannion

For us Matković will have important role. He could put up good numbers. Gnjidić and Prkačin probably won't
            Jordi Bertomeu sucks!

Matkovic should be on the list, rather than Mannion.

poll updated as per FIBA's 10-men list. Cheers.

Marko Simonović (Chicago Bulls) from Montenegro is a F/C with intriguing skill set. He will get a lot of playing time and might be among best young players.

Not only because of he signed with Olimpija, but I am a big fan of Karlo Matković. He has legs of some SG's, therefor is pretty agile, has fast reactions for a center and could develop into a great defensive player in my opinion.
If a rising star is U22 player than he is my pick, when it comes to this tournament. Close call among many other nevertheless.

Looking at the list, Wagner, Sengun, Jokobaitis, Mannion, Garuba... quite a list of promising players! A surprise considering how mediocre the development of talents in europe has been lately.

Žiga Samar likely won't get the minutes, behind Dragič and Nikolič but would be interesting to see in a team that wouldn't be as stacked on PG. Very eager to see him develop in a few years.

Define lately... Last 3 NBA MVPs are from Europe and 3/5 of All-NBA first team.

This will echo what I talked about in some other thread about Greece not being to develop talent.

Just because Giannis is Greek, it doesn't mean that Greece does a good job developing basketball youth. Giannis was lucky to have Takis Zivas as a coach who was smart enough to train him and utilize him as a PG throughout his youth. In any other team, Giannis would probably be stuck playing the scarecrow under the basket. Instead Takis insisted on polishing his ball handling skills, playmaking ability, court vision etc and then when his time finally came and put on some muscle, he became virtually unstoppable.

Although this seems to be changing a little bit, most kids in Greece spend their time learning team play (reading disadvantages, play complex defenses etc) instead of learning the fundamentals of shooting, ball handling, being good at 1v1 etc. There is no consistent development of talent.

I can't speak for other countries, I know that Serbia has a long tradition of producing incredible hoopers, but in the case of Jokic, I'm not sure if he is a product of that process. He wasn't even a member of the youth teams (apart from one stint with U19).

Sure Dončič, Antetokoumpo and Jokič are beasts, but... so were Petrović, Sabonis in the times when an average european player lagged behind an average NBaer really hard.

Developing a center is a matter of percentages to a notable degree along with other stuff. Out of 100 205 cm tall players, some notable percentage will make it to professional basketball.
Developing a guard is a matter of numerous additional factors, making it harder to achieve accurdingly since eventually 1 out of 100 guards or less will make it profesionaly.

That's why I am far from being impressed with european production given that there are not that many players smaller than 2 meters from europe currently playing in NBA. And looking at euroleague, compared to 15 years ago when we were all really hopefull about so many young players that could've make it, the current level of those players isn't something that would impress me either. As well as some NT's that as if don't have adequate younger guards to replace the older ones... I think it's fair to say that the production of players in europe was mediocre to some extent recently and especialy compared to the generations from 15 years ago.

Players like Pokusevski, Jeremy Sochan, and Alocen strengthen the list even more. Hukporti and Tubelis were also great additions. Just like how these players add depth to a roster, the right additions to your wardrobe can elevate your style. Stylish footwear for women can make all the difference, just as Žiga Samar would indeed be a notable mention to any team.
