  • Referee Scandal ??

    Sorry if this has been discussed earlier. Also i am not sure about the credibility of the news, but here it goes, according to a turkish sports portal;

    Türkiye ve dünyada gelişen tüm son dakika spor haberlerini anında ve tarafsız olarak kullanıcısına sunan Türkiye'nin bir numaralı spor portalı

    double scandal

    1. zoran sutulovic is fired from eurobasket 2011 after his request for favor from the referees of Montenegro (his homeland) game has been revealed. Sutulovic was one of the 3 referees of the much criticized poland - turkey game.

    2. Greece Basketball Federation is fined 15.000 EUR for their efforts to influance the referees before every Greece game.

    anyone heard about such things?

    I am not about to start a greek lobby discussion all over, but if these 2 are correct, the tournament has lost all its value for me.

    This is the explanation of the 3 losses of Turkey. I suppose the tournament has lost a lot of its value after that. One more to go and we will never hear from you again.

    Until you give us one (1) reliable source to back up your allegations, I say that you are a PATHETIC, MISERABLE, DIRTY LIAR.

      If this is true then they definitely suck at influencing referees, ie FYROM game

        I bring on your attention was what the disciplinary procedure followed after the Greece-Serbia friendly last year...

        Usually, penalties are imposed after a:
        - Meeting of the disciplinary committee
        - A defense of the accussed
        and ends with a
        - publishing of the penalties.

        Now...this is all a procedure that cannot be hidden, so I would rank it as "Conspiracy Theory".

              that makes sense to me as well. also there should be many reactions to it on the net if such thing exists. The only other source i could come up with is a web site of a turkish daily newspaper which is actually where the other portal quoted from;

              The wording used is what bothers me and somehow lead me to bring the issue here. because when turkish media made up shit, they generally use phrases like "its been reported that" or "its ben overheard that" bla bla then they drop the shit. However for this one, they use very solid, binding statements. In anyway i think we will find out in couple of days.

                It wasnt going to be "close" in the first place, if only referees did not kill our momentum time after time with unfair whistles.

                  I am sure in case this rumour would be true, that with all those reporters in Vilnius it will spread fast and reach all european media.
                  However I doubt a bit this rumour has any reliable background. In case it''ll show up to be true, I will re-open this thread.
                  Without some solid basis this thread doesn't serve to anything but potentialy unfair bashing and flaming based on wild rumours only, thus decreasing the forum's level and is getting closed accordingly.

                  temporaly closed

                      I am surprised by the lightness of the punishment is the offense is real and proved.

                        and I am really surprised Greece isnt kicked out of the contest.

                              We still don't what he said exactly to the refs.

                              Maybe it was more clumsy harrassing than bribery attempt.
