  • Group C situation (before day 5)

Just thought this deserves it's own thread. All teams can still qualify for the next round. Chances look most slim for Finland and Montenegro though who will face each other (1 win / 3 losses each). Also remembering how big of a team Montenegro is will cause a lot of problems for the Finnish team and how they thrashed our team 1 year ago in the qualifications. I do have to say that this team Finland is different and will give them a fight this time, but not sure if they can deal with the size advantage of Montenegro well enough.

    1. Greece 3/1 7
    2. F.Y.R. of Macedonia 3/1 7
    3. Croatia 2/2 6
    4. Bosnia and Herzegovina 2/2 6
    5. Finland 1/3 5
    6. Montenegro 1/3 5

Day 5 matches for group C:
    Finland - Montenegro
    F.Y.R Macedonia - Bosnia & Herzegovina
    Greece - Croatia

While Croatia who has underperformed during the tournament is at 2/2 and they will meet Greece 3/1. Bosnia & Herzegovina is at 2/2 too and will face Macedonia. Greece & Macedonia are already qualified.

So in order for Finland to qualify, both Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina need to lose tomorrow, which is actually quite possible considering Croatia hasn't been itself lately. Can Macedonia stop Teletovic though, whom Finland was able to shut down, who destroyed Croatia yesterday?

Big question: Are Greece and Macedonia too happy with their current situation and slack in their final matches, because Croatia and Bosnia & Hertzegovina will give all they got since they have everything on the line. If Greece & Macedonia will be comfortable at all with the status quo that will definately make them lose their next matches, the margins are so small.

If by some miracle everything in the group goes the way of Finland or Montenegro do we have to count the point differences or are the match results between the tied teams checked before point difference?

So who do you guys think will take the 3rd place and how/why?

The grounds of the question are invalid I believe.

Montenegro is already out, in a triple tie with B&H and Croatia, it will be left with no h2h points at the 5fth place.

Greece is not in yet. Should both Skopia and Athens loose, Greece is forth and out I think.

Group C is a hot mess. It's like gumbo soup from New Orleans. Messy, hot and spicy. Bo Mcalebb is from New Orleans, USA. I blame him. He crashed the party and brought southern style cooking.

The two coolest scenarios this group offers are (IMO):
        1. Finland proceeds
        2. (Even better) Croatia beats Greece, and all the Greeks are rooting for FYROM

Macedonia wouldn't tank the game because they need the win for the next phase...

Ah okay. Didn't know Montenegro has no chance. That changes a lot. Finland might have easier time against them as it will be harder to find motivation also knowing how they beat us last time their motivation could be gone completely.

My personal guess is. Croatia will beat Greece and i'm also going to say Bosnia & Herzegovina beats Macedonia. Teletovic 25+ points. I have no idea how Kotti was able to shut him down and other teams can't.

Weird thing. Finland vs Montenegro was supposed to start 15-20 mins ago. It's not liveupdated even here http://www.eurobasket2011.com/en/ and no streams up.

Finland leads 11-9. Pretty much what needs to happen for Finland to qualify is that Macedonia need to beat Bosnia and Greece need to beat Croatia.

Cro will step up and win. Both teams have big guys and Croatia's 3-point shooting is better.

Finland beat Montenegro 71-65. I'm so proud of this team. Everyone expected Finland to lose all their games before the tournament and now we got 2 wins and a 2 point loss to Macedonia and chances are still alive to qualify.
