Υοu wirelessbrain you, it is not a matter of a "story" : he WASN'T a member of the greek delegation. He USED to be. So how the fuck can anybody officially implicate it?

However, that "news website" of yours, was too soon to blow up the "preliminary information" that it had available, by conjuring up a bribing attempt incident plus alleged statements of the referees who received sms messages on their cellphones, right after the national anthems of the teams were executed in the arena.

You may believe whatever the heck you want to, as much as you can "wait until Eurobasket 2011 is over" so as to see what FIBA is going to do about it. Meanwhile however, the FACTS to the case are :

Stavros Elliniadis, former delegation member, being at the arena as an individual, had the "profound" idea of sending messages to the referees, requesting that they wouldn't tolerate provocative nationalistic actions. He claims his incentive was the inappropriate behavior of portion of the republic of Macedonia's fans while the Greek national anthem was being executed, bringing to mind much worse manifestations 2 years ago at the Polish Eurobasket and the respective game between the same teams.

FIBA fined him, without implicating the greek delegation, whose member he wasn't anyway.

So :
Don't you think that had there been an attempted bribery towards the refs, or at least a request that they'd support the greek team, FIBA 'd have right away taken more drastic actions? A Montenegrin ref has already been suspended for requesting exactly that.
Secondly, why on earth should Greeks (supposedly Elliniadis wasn't acting on his own will) try affect the refs? The final outcome of the game proven that the team of the republic of Macedonia had played more responsibly - yet it was considered as the underdog before the game started. In fact it has been surprising that up to now they haven't even lost a single game. Plus, 2 years ago, it lost to a 30+ point difference against the greek team. All in all, it was considered to be one of the teams that would give an early farewell to the Lithuanian Eurobasket escapade. Congrats to them for overthrowing all predictions so far, yet they weren't considered to be an opponent to be taken into account.

Your news agency has been too fast on making accusations that have not, at least not yet, been proven - plus it has been too fast on commenting like "one can only feel sorry for this morally bankrupt nation".

If there IS something that one can feel sorry for, is the tendency of certain people in the republic of Macedonia to blow up things before their time and to practice the use of calling names for the mere purpose of applying a certain propaganda...

It obviously isn't, but Elliniadis claimed they were acquantancies of his. Which is not an absurd claim, since he has been a member of the federation and previously part of the team's delegations in various events. He's not a "nobody" after all.
Anyway, lobbying is a commonly practiced practice by everyone. However lobbying is one thing - trying to directly affect refs is another. And as far as proven facts stand, nothing of the kind took place, unless depositions change in the near future.
