but if this makes liths think they are gonna have gold, you are damn wrong. any 'neutral' could see turks were better as a team.
they shot worse, they rebounded less, they did less assists, their bench scored WAY less, and they were clearly a better team? ok

and to anyone talking about "luck" and "refs":

on paper a team can be much better. But it's not paper that plays in the court that night. It's the team. Whichever team does better, wins. Better team wins. Last night, Lithuania had a better team on court.

About refs: please, just download the recording and look over it, and count whistles for one team, and for another team. There were mistakes, but to both sides.

But that's the way they want to go, with their sneakers on playing some hoops!

in order to be accidental, kaukenas should cause it by doing a move he's normally doing in the way he's normally doing it. is shoving your elbow another elementary move in basketball?
Ok,now I can't understand at all what you're saying. So far it looks like what you're trying to tell us is that Kaukenas intentionaly hit Tunceri, but he didn't try to hurt him that bad.
Lietuvos rytas - signing your Yugoslavian scrubs since forever.

          • nah, not pissed, just annoyed a bit

have been reading this place for ages - it's a great board, and (most) of the posters seem to be really objective. decided to join in

i'd say that Lith does not have a very strong team on paper, however, what they do have is an amazing, perhaps best coach in the whole tournament, and deep deep history of team play. We manage to somehow combine that with patience, persistence and some strange way of putting the shots in. That's the wave we're riding for.

Serbia, Spain, Turkey are very very powerful teams.

Russia might be one aswell, if they can deliver (did they reach their top performance too early?)

            Germany - one man battle..

France - very athletic, in run-and-shoot games that works, not in sticky defence though..

Rest of the teams might make trouble for everyone aswell.

Lithuania looks to me to be a good team. They may go very far in this tournament, but the home factor is very important for them. Judging from their roster, this is the weakest Lithuanian team in the last decade. Lithuanian players are either aged, or playing in Europe cup teams. Their two best players, Kaukenas and Saras are 34 and 35 years old. So it's hardly a world class team.

The game between Lithuania and Turkey was very exciting because two good teams on more or less the same level fought an epic battle. Don't kid yourselves, thinking the level was world class. Teams like Germany and especially France will be more or less on par with Lithuania and Turkey. Serbia and Spain are the best teams of this group.

You can never say how good a defensive team is until they're matched against the favored offensive teams.
Same thing with Greece too, almost every decent team think that they can beat them but Greece somehow ends up in top 4 almost everytime.

It's like; you're watching the game, other team looks like playing well, whoop; the defensive team is up by 10.

As soon as the proximity to the medals minimizes, the games start to look ugly and level differences between the teams seem to vanish.

Also, I think the length of this tournament is not actually long. It's probably like, 2 easy (prep) games for top teams; then longer rest time between rounds without any further changes in game count. (unlike 2005 to 2007)

Defense burns players' stamina. Many sacrifice their movement in offense to keep themselves ready for running back and defend effectively. With this increased rest time, the tournament is a condition that favors (more) the kind of teams I mentioned.

However, this schedule maims low seeded teams' chances to do solid in further rounds, as they have to fight every 5 game to possibly weaken them physically.

Weakest team in the last decade? I heard something like that in Turkey last year... And in that turnament we played having half of Javtokas in our front line... This team have some weak spots, but to consider it weaker when in WC2006 or EC2009 is quite stupid.
This team have front line, team spirit + great coach and to be strongest team in the last decade we are missing Kleiza and Maciulis. It is us simple us that.

Are you sure about Serbia? We shall see it after a game with France. And Germany is just one man team.

Actually,Kaman has been looking stellar so far.
I'd refrain from calling them a one man team

indeed, the hit was intentional. kaukenas felt the pressure, thought that he has been fouled and pulled the trigger. The hit was intentional, but without intention to hurt. reckless play by kaukenas, but it is obviously he wasn't headhunting.

                    • what a hard fougth nerve wrecking game it was, it was a great mach and very intense if you are a turk or lith fan.. it seemed liek turkey did play better for 3 qarters and lithuania was playing catch up, but in the 4th when it mattered the most team came together and perfomed.. lucky or not we got the important win, now i really hope we can take spain and sweep the group, also turkey-spain match will be intence

And let that be a lesson to you all. Nobody beats Zalgiris 17 times in a row.

                            • We lost the game but we won Ersan Ilyasova, something what is very important in the further part of the tournament.

We played great D in some parts of the game but the Lithuanians were too experienced for us in the last part of the game. And we were unlucky by the lay-up of Emir and the 2 pointer from Arslan somewhere in the middle of the final quarter.

It was a great game from two teams who certainly are medal candidates. Lithuania was for now the luckier side, but we will meet each other again this tournament that's something where i'm pretty sure about..

                              Congratulations Liths, you deserve it
