  • [Day 2] Game D/6: Georgia - Russia

    Georgia - Russia

    Date: September 1st, 2011
    Venue: Švyturio arena, Klaipėda
    Time: 18:00 (EEST (UTC+3))

Game of the day, speaking from perpective of political tension. If Georgia wins it, the whole nation can expect a public holiday tomorow. President of the republic attended the game against the Belgians. I guess yesterday's team's performance was convincing enough to stay for the match against the big neighbour.

I think Georgia can give a fight here. First of all, they got a biggest support after Lithuania and probably Latvia. They also has a solid frontcourt: Pachulia, Shermadini, Boisa, nice prospect Shengelia. Backourt is weaker, of course, a foreigner could be better. Looking forward for an interesting game.

Georgia demolished Belgium thanks to huge 38-21 rebounding edge and shooting sick 68.2% for 2 points. Russia was unconvincing, but limited Ukraine to 64 points, team similar to Georgia (both teams' quality is concentrated in frontcourt).
So, I have no doubts about: Russia to play good defense and to win.
Doubts about: Russian offense and margin of the win.
For prediction game I had to came out with some number. So: Russia by 11 points or so, because Russian unimpressive backcourt still looks 11 times better than Georgian one

This is turning into a really exciting game. Georgians are fighting hard and the Russians are playing horribly, especially on offense.

It's great to see such a big attendance, but the trumpets are annoying.

        ...

Russians scoreless in the 4th quarter with 4 minutes left.

Russia seemingly cruised, led 49-37. Then I glanced at livestats and I see it says only 52-50 for Russia.
I found livestream and jinxed Georgians , 13-8 for Russia in last 5 minutes.
At least I saw great Kirilenko's circus shot for "and one".

Shouldn't Georgians make it a game, I wouldn't bother to watch any of this game. 12 games a day is really too much. Even with some boring blowouts, there is no time to see most of action.
