If indeed Japeth is getting married, I see him coming home to earn a living either in the PBA or thru the National Team of the SBP. So far he has nothing much to show for the US scouts to recommend him in the NBA or a minor league team. Or worst he would just get an ordinary job in the US outside basketball. By the way, what is the course is Japeth taking-up there in WKU?

by the way alex15, is Ray joking or is it really true that he is now married?

this area is not known to have a big filipino population. based on the pictures i saw, there seems to be a number of hispanics.

My daughter (Melissa Vilar) is 15 years old and a junior playing for Harding Academy Varsity basketball team here in Memphis, TN. She likewise play AAU and exposure basketball during summer. We know Ray Parks, she plays pick up game with him @ Bartlett Rec Center.

Excuse me sir, I just want to ask if your daughter is a Fil-am. Do you have any plans of sending her here to play basketball?

Me and my wife are naturalize Canadian citizen. My daughter was born in Canada. We are here in the US because I got transferred to work here for our Canadian company. As for plans sending her to play in the Philippines, why not.

I see. Well, colleges and universities are accepting foreign students as players, and it's quite a pleasure if your daughter could ever play here in the Philippines.

                            Ray-Ray, the new Bobby Parks?
                            By WAYLON GALVEZ

Except for being a "lefty," it’s like watching a younger Bobby Parks runs the court, grabs a rebound, fly for a layup.

Yes, that’s Ray-Ray Parks, the 15-year-old son of the former seven-time Best Import in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) who is part of some 30 members of the Nokia-Philippines Under-16 national pool.

Together with his father, they arrived from the USA last Sunday.

It was actually the first time for the young 6-foot-3 Parks, whose mother, Marifer Celine Barbosa, is a Filipina, since he left the country 12 years ago. He was born in Cavite.

Parks, who speaks fluent Filipino, is now in 10th grade at St. George’s Independent School in Memphis, USA.

In a Q & A with the Bulletin, Parks took time out to share his thoughts about the ongoing tryouts for the RP Youth being conducted by coach Eric Altamirano at the Xavier School gym in Greenhills, San Juan as well as other things.

How’s your stay here so far in the Philippines?

Ray-Ray Parks: Well good. It’s really nice to be back and play basketball.

What do you think about the competition?

It’s really competitive. Every player works hard on practice. But it’s been fun to play with Filipinos.

You have a chance to play for the Philippine Team.

Yes. If given a chance it would be a big honor for me. That’s why I’m doing my best to prove that I can contribute.

Have you seen your father play?

(Bobby Parks, a third round pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1984 NBA Draft – 58th overall –began his PBA career when he debuted with San Miguel Beer in 1987 but best remembered as import of Formula Shell until 1998).

                            Yes.

Despite being a ‘lefty’, have you tried to emulate some of his moves?

Yeah. I tried to do a crossover move and his jump-shot.

                            What’s your favorite food?

Filipino food po. Sinigang ang paborito ko.

Who’s your favorite player in the PBA?

Jimmy Alapag (of Talk ’N Text).

                            And in the NBA?

Ray Allen (of the reigning NBA champion Boston Celtics.

How about a team in the NBA or PBA?

                            I don’t have a particular team.
