Ray, you are welcome to join the San Beda Red Cubs/Red Lions.
even tough he would be a great addition to my beloved Grade School and High School Alma Mater, I would rather have him coached in college by either John Calipari at Memphis Tigers or Mike Krzyzewski at Duke Blue Devils instead of Frankie Lim in San Beda.

Email this | Email the Editor | Print | Digg this | Add to del.icio.us MANILA, Philippines - Ray Parks, son of Philippine Basketball Association seven-time Best Import Bobby Parks, will be staying in the Philippines for a week to attend the national developmental pool that will serve as training ground for players who will play for the 2012 London Olympics.
The six-foot-three Parks, 15, is set to arrive on December 27 and try out for the under-16 squad to be handled by newly installed mentor Eric Altamirano
"I am very interested in playing for the RP team. I would love to represent the Philippines anyway I can. I am proud to be Filipino and if I do make the team, I can represent the country the best way I can," Parks told GMANEWSTV via online interview.
"I will be in the Philippines from December 27 to January 3. I am glad that I am getting the chance to come back home and try out for the RP team. I am playing basketball everyday here in the US. I will have to miss a couple of practices here with my high-school team to come to the Philippines," he added.
Parks has earned the admiration of several scouts from US NCAA Division One teams. He has had impressive numbers of 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Ridgeway Middle School in Memphis.
Parks, who can speak Tagalog fluently, Bobby Parks' with his Filipina wife Marifer Celine Barbosa, who now lives in Los Angeles.
Besides attending the tryout for the RP team, Parks is also pondering his future whether to play in the US NCAA or play for a collegiate team in the Philippines.
Ateneo, whose team is being handled by Parks’ godfather, Norman Black, is reportedly very much interested in luring the son of the former San Miguel and Shell best import, who has become the yardstick by which foreign reinforcements in the PBA are gauged.
Black even admitted that the son is better than his father in some respects.
"He shoots better than Bobby," Black said . "I think he’ll be a great player. Of course, I’d like him to play for Ateneo but I leave it up to Ray and Bobby."
"The level of competition is certainly higher in the US and if Ray is invited to play for a big school, I’ll encourage him to go for it." - Rey Joble, GMANews.TV

- at least Norman Black understands that for a certain player to improve is for him to play in a better competition. That shows that Norman is a great player/guy that sacrifices his own success for the good of a certain player.

We would again call on the Fil-Foreign players based in North America to take note of the announcement below. For the other Forumers who have contacts in North America who are talented basketball players who are worth considering, do appreciate you relay to them the info below.
A letter from Mr. Caloy Allado:
Sir:
We are writing you in behalf of the BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Inc., the governing basketball body of the Philippines. The BAP-SBP has embarked on a program for the next four years to regain our basketball supremacy in Asia.
As a result, we are staging a Fil-Am All Star camp scheduled sometime in April 2009 to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada. We will be having two categories:
a. Senior Level (19-26 yrs old with college ball experience)
b. Junior Level (15-18 yrs old with high school ball experience)
The final number of teams will be determined on the number of players that will be nominated.
The purpose of the Fil-Am camp is to identify potential members for the Philippine national team that will compete in the Asian Games in 2010, Qualifiying Tournament leading to 2012 London Olympics and other international tournaments in the next four years. The national coach and his staff will be present in the camp.
We would appreciate your assistance in spreading the news to your members/players and hopefully you could nominate players to this camp.
For further information, please call or email me.
Sincerely,
Caloy Allado

Nardy, I thought it's a long-term program. How come Caloy is only talking about "a program for the next four years"? What happens after 2012?
What is the purpose of the US camp for Fil-Ams if there is already a 25-man pool selected by BAP?
Yes it stated by Caloy that:
The purpose of the Fil-Am camp is to identify potential members for the Philippine national team that will compete in the Asian Games in 2010, Qualifiying Tournament leading to 2012 London Olympics and other international tournaments in the next four years. A program for 4 years is a long period program even in the the Corporate world. We have to see what happens come 2012 since there might be changes or modifications that has to be done. Countries usually sets their sporting programs insync with the Olympics which is held every four years.
Even in corporations we rarely do a program more than 4 years anymore since what was implemented a few years earlier could already be obsolete in just a year or so. For example when this long-term program was being conceptualized about a year ago, we did not take into account the possible merger of FIBA-Asia and FIBA-Oceania which was announced a few months ago to be under consideration. Just this month there are already talk that if ever the said Asia-Pacific merger would push thru, it would still be split into 2 groups (West Asia-Pacific and East Asia-Pacific). So we could see many changes come 2012 even if the 2 National Teams for 2009 and 2011 become successfull or not.
As of now, at least we have programs in place. We are opening doors to full-blooded or half-blooded Filipinos that are based overseas a chance to be included in the National Training Pool. This was not the case in the past, so we are hoping you give these programs a chance. For it to work, we need all the support that we can get.
After 2012 the members of the pool would have undergone an extensive training under Serbian Rajko Toroman, would have travelled to different parts of the globe while playing for the flag and attending different basketball camps plus they would have already been rewarded the financial package promised by MVP. From there that is a nice foundation wherein the players would have come 2012.
The 25 players initially selected is not the final list of the whole pool. That is subject to change as more players are to be added. If there are other players like those to be found overseas does deserve to be included, they would be added or could be replacements for those earlier selected but have to go for various of reasons.
Even the 14 players selected by Coach Yeng Guiao for the short term program is just the initial list. In reality all the players in the PBA are all part of the whole pool where Coach Guiao can select for the National Team. This was actually the same set-up as in the 2007 FIBA-Asia team of Coach Chot Reyes.
Actually I have full trust on whatever plans or programs of Manny V Pangilinan. If you are familiar on how SMART started, you'll know why he is a genius.
Other telecoms people were laughing then at SMART as the other companies were already getting consumers to buy their cellphones while SMART was going to different remote parts of the Philippines setting-up cell-sites. They were saying the people out there don't even use a phone. But due to the forward thinking of MVP and his people, they envisioned that setting-up the infrastructure first is more important than getting a fast buck. Along the way SMART bought PLDT which is on the red that time, people again were surprised about that move by MVP and said it was a suicide. What people did not see is that SMART would be using PLDT in order to take SMART further into the market. And in no time, SMART soon ate up the market and some of their competitors had closed shop while SMART became the market leader.
