More accuratly it's hard to acquire Philippines citizenship for foreigns. "Foreigners" are not entitled to FIBA exceptions in any country

remember citizenship laws of the Philippines does not translate to the definition of FIBA eligibility rules. To make it simple, we call him naturalized player, they call him a local player. I hope SBP would also look at the fact that he may be regarded as a Marginal Case [1] (Just like Thon Maker and Giannis [2]). I hope they would arrange his papers in accordance with 1951 Refugee Convention requirements.

          34. Decisions on marginal cases are the responsibility of the Secretary General following consultation with the Chairman of the FIBA Legal Commission.
The same shall apply with respect to refugees enjoying asylum rights and displaced persons (UN Conventions).
In certain cases, FIBA nationality may be granted to a player. http://www.fiba.basketball/downloads...%20PLAYERS.pdf

          • Kuoame in Gilas next year will give the team that solid interior defense. He could even chase those quicker guards, that I think is what he has as a slight edge with Kai, Ange has a faster and quicker feet. Kuoame and Greg will give us height even without AJ and Kai, of course Kuoame might be the preferred starter and Greg would have to come off the bench.I think they will be very good addition in the FIBA qualifying windows. Ange at the center with either Go or Erram at the power forward will be a very good sight to see.If the play is 4 out 1 in or 3 out 2 in, either Erram or Go could shoot the three's at a good percentage of making it along with other shooters, Ange can always be our Junmar Fajardo waiting for the offensive rebounds. If Kuoame was already playing for Gilas in the Indonesia game, maybe we would have beaten them by at least 40.I could just Imagine Kuoame with Erram,D.Ramos,T.Ravena and CJ Perez on the floor at the same time.

was it 19 or 17? I think he was in Cebu already at around 17 years old. Wright might not be covered by the Hagop rule when he played for the U-17 team, and to think that he played for the U-17, "maybe" he could have acquired his passport at 16 or younger. Now, all the guys that you mentioned in the Philippines are considered natural born citizens, meaning they don't need to be naturalized in able for them to get a passport.

Wright got his passport at 17 yrs old , when he got clearance all info was provided (including U18 representation and age he got passport), FIBA decided to clear him based on all information provided.

Within the Philippines yes. But the other countries I mentioned have produced naturalized exemptions.

if they could exempt a player for the playing for the youth team, i think SBP should have done that to Harper Jr. and Artest and maybe Millora-Brown ( but I think he really have some citizenship issues unlike Artest and Harper).

Just to clarify in 2008 the U16 rule wasn't strictly applied
Wright did not get clearance to play for Gilas in 2017 purely on the basis of his youth representation, but all factors were considered

                          • Awudu Abass is another example of a foreign national getting exempted. He now plays for Italy. Only got his citizenship at the age of 18.

                              This is close to impossible.

First, he do not have passport UNTIL NOW.

Second, He played for almost all youth team of usa.

Third, USA and his nba team must also allow him. (Highly unlikely)

Fourth, He already made a choice right? He chose usa youth team instead of batang gilas.

Fifth, He can only play for us as naturalized. I think we need our NP to be a Tall wing player just because we need it more.

I am still greatful to Jalen because he recruited Kai to join the G league(Yes, Jalen suggested him). But I don't think he will play for us

                              • Kuya Cardo and his experience as a naturalized player for SoKor:

They play for South Korea and have made the country their home, but being naturalised citizens means having to go through many hoops, say the foreign-born athletes.

At least hindi tayo ganoon. We can still be pretty racist and/or discriminatory though (the 5 Fil-for per team in the PBA, MPBL and the Fil-for height limit, naturalized players can’t play as locals).
