When I saw him play in the PBA, he looked like a defensive liability. He was getting blown by and scored on by Tony Bishop, and isn't much of a defensive presence near the basket. That's the biggest concern I have, our defense.
Boatwright's poor defense is really worrisome. No doubt that offensively he's impressive (though his performance in last conference final series against Magnolia was far from impressive). I just feel that this current version of Gilas under coach Tim Cone doesn't need a naturalized player who is a big scorer more than it needs someone with decent defensive skills.

While Dray Blatche wasn't known as a decent defender in the NBA, I think by Asia-Oceania standards, Blatche' defense was decent enough.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Why the hell would we do that? How is that in the best interest of Gilas?

      • Its the best time for the PBA to consider our Naturalized players as locals.

They clearly doesn't want him to play at all, considering he had elevated his skills to Euro level basketball,SBP doesn't like since he's a Tab guy,so let him go and he can play wherever he wants, besides aren't you confident that between Boatwright and JB they can handle an irrelevant NP led country in SEA.

          • It’s all about planning for the right NP for a particular tournament. Kouame will be serviceable when BLeague boys like Sotto and Edu are not available. Case in point the last Asian Games.

Kouame is still valuable. And I don’t think the SBP does not like him.

              Sir TBC,

              that is why.

So what if Tab is not liked by some people? It doesn’t mean Kouame is not liked also. This logic is absurd. And if that’s the case Kouame should have not been lined up in the Asian Games.

It boils down to certain factors like player availability, system fit and in Kouame’s case, redundancy. Kouame can play the positions of Sotto, Edu or Fajardo. And if Sotto, Edu and Fajardo are all available it makes Kouame’s chances slim to play in a particular tournament.

Even if what your saying is true and they dont like him why should we help our rivals like that?

Yeah, we will still need Ange as a reserve NP. Pool of NP's, e.

I think it's a matter of finding a go-to guy type of NP. I'll agree with sir The_Big_Cat, we still have June Mar, Kai, and AJ all available, chances of Ange getting picked are slim. And JB helps us out on defense.

But I think, after JB retires (and maybe June Mar along with him), there are a lot of holes to be filled. A third center (June Mar), a 4 or 5 capable of defending and cleaning up after the others (JB; AJ's currently the only other player capable of that), and a go-to guy (JB).

                        Probably the successor.

He already is making a living through basketball. What kind of argument is that?

I would have prefer Ange or an upgraded version of Ange. To be fair I also prefer to have another PG in the team like Bolick so what do I know.

The better solution here is to try the case of Ange for a possible FIBA exemption. There is nothing wrong if SBP tries. They tried it to players that did not do much for the national team (Lutz, Slaughter). Why not for the case of Ange?

                                Correct.
It also included players who were granted exemption that came late already as in the case of Chris Newsome, Maverick Ahanmisi, Greg Slaughter. How we wish such exemption came 3 or 4 years earlier.
