  • I've been following Hepa for a long time now. For perspective on levels, this is him when he was a high school freshman (around 14 yrs old). It will be good to assess how our 14 yr old bigs stack up. This is about 9 years ago and kids are becoming better skilled as ever.

His skillset will rise more in the asian level where athleticism is lower. I don't see him as a Pingris. He's more of a Stanhardinger.

He'll definitely be someone who can help Gilas.

Alot stronger than either one of them for sure.

      • I thought at first that Kamaka Hepa is a natural center. But in this video highlight it seems he is more of a four than a five: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0ySoDX_-U4

I think Hepa is around 6-foot-8 or maybe a fraction of an inch higher than 6-foot-8 which is a good size four already in the Asia basketball level.

This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Heading into college he was a four and even moved like a 3. But once in college, he didn't have elite D1 speed and athleticism so he had to bulk up (struggled as a tweener early in college).

At the asian level, I think his more well-rounded skillset will reappear because of lower athleticism and speed.

So he'll be more like a tweener with us.

I'll be fine with a Kamaka Hepa playing as a four with Gilas. He can also play as a center in token minutes.

Hepa can be our version of Ali Haidar - Lebanon's stretch-4. I think Hepa & Haidar are of the same height & perhaps almost of the same skill set.

Ali Haidar scored BIG 23 points and also saved 8 rebounds for Lebanon's side. Enjoy the amazing performance by Ali Haidar for Lebanon against Saudi Arabia fr...

He's around 24 yrs old and will not really get much faster but will get stronger.

If he regains/unlocks his former confidence (State Player of the Year for 3 years in high school, 2 with Alaska and 1 with Oregon) then he can be a versatile and skilled 4. If not, he can concentrate on getting stronger and be a 4/5 who can shoot. He's similar to Asi in terms of genetics.

                • I admit that I ain't a Bill Velasco fanboy but more of the dean fanatic during my teenage days but in terms of reliability as far as information on athletes are concern BV are more reliable than QH in my own personal observation, no offense meant they also had their own slippage along the way as a sports journalist

they also had their own share of imperfection.

if indeed KH is a document holder before his 16th birthday and contemplating of pivoting his basketball career here in Asia then it's no brainer that the Philippines will be a logical choice before dreaming of playing in a more lucrative B. League, KBL or NBL

I think having a Gilas stint in his resume added some value in his stock because of the so-called "Asian thing" compared to the so-called "World Import thing"

I totally agree that if the SBP run by the combine forces of RSA and MVP can lure the likes of blue chippers like KH, DH, QMB among others in the Gilas program because indeed money talks.

whatever Ms. Erika Dy are saying most of the time it's already a yes.

                  she's the key.

                  that is why.

Has there been any 14 year old big local this good at this age, even stacked up against 18 year old local bigs his skillset and athleticism already puts him at a different level

Not at that size. What we have plenty of are eventual sub 6-foot pinoys who start playing as early as they start to talk. They would dominate in the pre-teen years in expense of kids who eventually grow very tall (usually awkward/uncoordinated early on).

A lot of our extremely tall players just start playing organized basketball at 14-16 (a lot barely can even make a fluid layup). I sound like a broken record, but it's too late if D1 and higher levels are the goal.

Hepa grew up in one of the most remote places in the world in Alaska. Not much competition there, but he made it a point to still work on skills even if he was the biggest in their whole region. Halfway in high school, he moved to Oregon to face better competition.

Guys, how is the pay being a world import in premier pro leagues in Poland or the Baltic states? I have a feeling that what Hepa is getting playing as an import in Poland or the Baltic states is perhaps a fraction of what he would be getting playing as an Asian import in B-league.

Especially if he goes to a team with an actual center, allowing him to play the 4.

                              Sir Jams,

no idea here about the details.

maybe Sir Giannis can provide something.
