Even in the American system,at that early age, kids have multiple sports and master of none, even Dwight played American football all the way to HS,I think it was in his junior year he actually choosed basketball as his sport. In America since its seasonal potentila of kids to play up to 3 different sports and excel in each one and sometimes not until National Signing Day has traditionally been the first day that a high school senior can sign a binding National Letter of Intent for a collegiate sport with a school that is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association in the United States. At that early age you as a parent just wants him to have fun and as the saying goes "a tired boy is a good boy".

While it's true that hyping up young kids is not the way to go, it will be unavoidable with extremely tall young pinoy players. With how social media crazy the country is and how rare they are, it will be almost impossible once the kid starts playing organized basketball (which he needs to do).
That's when the kid's parents/support group comes in. It's the job of the parents/family to keep the kid grounded and at the same time let him be a kid. Most of the time, it's the parents/family that enables the hyping. The kid can't take videos of himself while he is playing. Personally, I believe the kid can't have his own social media account until a certain mature age (15?). Until then, if the kid has an account, the parents should have access to it.
The worst though is parents of kids who have very miniscule chances of becoming successful basketball players (genetical reasons) and still put so much expectations and hype on their young kids. This happens a lot especially at ages when growth spurts still hasn't occurred.
Extremely tall/athletic kids are a different situation. It's like having a child genius in elementary who can already pass college. Expectations will be made. Majority of the players in the nba went through this, it is the price you pay.

The kid himself knows, when it is time to get serious, majority of kids picked up a sport just to be with their friends, there will be a time when a the kid himself will say this is the sport I wanna excel in,its one thing to send the kids to basketball academies, but force feeding the kid even in his off time to train is unwise.Case in point of that Australian big boy,we all thiought would be a good PF for Kai,he was pushed into it that he hated it completely.

From my experience as a parent, it's good to start by just giving the kid memorable experiences. Things like watching an exciting live game, the bigger the better. Let him be a fan and fall in love with the sport/stars first. Once he's a fan and starts playing, he will quickly realize that there are kids better than him. That's when you start teaching him about the value of practice and training. The trick is even if you want him to do something, always figure out a way where he will be the one to want to do it. Sometimes it's even good to play hard to get, like limiting his time to play.

Let the kid be a kid and let him fall in love with the sport. Once he gets bit by the bug, the rest takes care of itself with proper guidance.Last edited by Metta; 12-23-2023, 02:55 AM.

Although they only have about a year of difference, Demisana (18) is already very far from this level. Kobe is the potential Balti 2.0. This guy is so raw closer to guys like Versoza. His feet doesn't look heavy though, it's just that he looks like he just started playing.
Man, the US bases must've left something in the water, so many Pampanga kids are tall af.

I’ve heard several times that water story of the Greater Pampanga(urban legend for now) from the stories of some old folks since I was a kid, but the more realistic story that are more substantial is the fact that people at that part of Luzon including Bulacan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Ilocandia are the melting pots of different nations from the Chinese, Japanese, Indians who somehow married the locals and settled there then came the western colonizers from Spain, Britain, Germans, Dutch and lastly the Americans. Those conquistadores was assembled/composed by a large number of hot blooded foot soldiers and it’s a war, everything goes, it’s free for all and every man for themselves with many mixed natives all around during those heydays even though it’s not fully detailed in our history books, we are not hypocrite on many things.
But overall, the strong DNA of the diminutive/short Malay tribes are really kicking in the bloodline of majority of the modern day Filipinos thus only a handful of Filipino lineage benefits the vertical attributes of the western and those are the Pangasinenses, kapampangans and Manilenyos(but unfortunately majority of them was obliterated when the Americans bombarded Manila during WW II)
