Well in the US,high school players even cheerleaders do play more than one sport,so its not strange to see a cheerleader, during fall and winter season,to run in track during spring. In some small schools you will see the same players who plays,American football in the fall, playing in basketball in winter and if they still want to,run track in spring or baseball.American parents subscribed to the belief of a tired boy is a good boy.

better tired than doing drugs or going to school with guns i guess..Meanwhile in the Philippines, especially basketball players, stick to one sport, maybe except for those palarong pambansang kids who got plucked/recruited to play basketball (Barroca, Thompson etc)

Nonetheless, They can be developed if trained right
This is where we need to improve.

These kids are already at an age where they will be entering high school. The time to start training them was much earlier. It should have already been obvious that they will be exceptionally tall at an early age. It's true that bigs develop slower but if they have at least been trained correctly for 6 months to 1 year at an early age, they would be much better by now. Just imagine how good they would be if they've been training for at least 4 years. And starting to play at that age is not too early. If you ask all the Pinoy elite small players how young they started, most will probably say around 6 years old.

Doncic started playing organized basketball at 7 years old and was already a pro at 13. We do not have an abundance of tall players, we have to maximize the development of the few we have.

In some small schools alot of offensive lineman do play center of PF,in their basketball teams, and they're just coming off a season from a hitting sport, what he did was just a simple push,it just shows the difference in strength of the individual.Sol Mercado used to play RB,so he's used to that getting hit while running towards the basket.

Yeah, between homework and sports, barely have anytime to do some bs with your friends,if you do have time, usually you ask your parents if their friends can sleep over and play video games. It should be encourage for an athlete to be more well rounded, and it should be in the Philippines, where its freaking summer for almost 9 mos, even the rainy season doesn't run that long. They can benefit on indoor soccer, badminton, ping pong, volleyball and other indoor games during the so called monsoon season. But the sport, that's highly recommended for basketball are swimming and track for obvious reasons, during off season, they both can increase speed and stamina.

In connection with this, how do we develop a 6'6"+ version of Pingris, someone that can anchor the defense and protect the paint?

We'll need athletes that size who can at least give effort in the paint and at the same time, have the versatility to switch on the perimeter.

That 6'7'ish La Salle kid M. Philips has high motor and got skills. Too bad is not eligible. Yet. But i get what you are saying, no homegrown talent yet that can approximate what Ping can do.

I think there are some factors why Ping have that high motor and energy, and defense anchoring.

                        1. Genes - For those unfamiliar, he is actually a Homegrown Fil Foreign. He is half Frances. (His Father is from France) Idk, I feel that france gene have something to do it. NATURE.

                        2. His childhoold life - I remembered in Kwentong Gilas that he came from porverty. And started working in such a young age to help his family. Growing up in streets, working as a young kid, imo, kinda contributes to his build and attributes.NURTURE.

Will we have a Taller Ping? Hope so, But I doubt it.

Kai, AJ, Carl, Balti are skilled Bigs. Arguably all are more skilled than Ping. But none if them is close to him in terms of Motor and Energy

math, the English term is French, but yeah, I get what you're saying. Explains his French name, Jean Marc.

As for others, closest I have in terms of size and athleticism are Liwag and probably Quiambao. How about Raven? Man, we're short of that. At least someone that can do half of what Ping could do.

                          • Gilas really need more combo guards,so that the tall guards won't be converted to SF.
