If that is not maximizing Kai, I don't know what is. Again, Kai's problem is stamina so you can't blame Tab for limiting his minutes when it was obvious his defense was getting slower the longer he was on the floor.
Yet some people feel coach Tab didn't maximize Kai's potential (kulang daw sa playing time si Kai) & they also think that Kai wasn't getting enough touches under coach Tab.

Maybe thess fans think that coach Tab should have given Kai around 32 mins. playing time & be the focal point of Gilas offense.

I think that will come for Kai. Maybe in 2027 WC.

2023, maybe the offense will revolve around JC(if NP), Dwight, Thirdy, Kiefer, and thirdy. DDO e.

But I hope Kai will be involved ofc. Especially if Kai will be at least an NBA or G league player already that time. (Sa 2023 ah)

I think Kai should play 32 minutes a game, foul trouble permitting. I expect Clarkson to be our NP so Kai needs to be able to take most the center minutes.

You're referring to a Kai Sotto playing for Gilas in next year's FIBA World Cup, right?

Well, when I said "Maybe these fans think that coach Tab should have given Kai around 32 mins. playing time", I was referring to Kai's stint with Gilas during last year's 3rd window qualifiers of the 2022 (originally 2021) FIBA Asia Cup.

Coach Tab had a reason for not giving Kai lots of playing time in that window as Kai had limited practice with the team prior to that window. It just so happened that some posters here whined so much & hit hard on coach Tab as maybe they think that Kai should have gotten about 32 mins per game & should have also been given lots of touches .

I want to see this in Fiba Asia Cup if (Kai will play there instead of summer league)

And obviously in 2023. If JC will be the NP.

Let's see how will Kai responds.

More than unfamiliarity it was Kai's stamina that limited his floor time. Tab actually didn't commit to giving Kai a slot immediately because he only had 1 practice. But his ability to pick up the system convinced Tab. He had the license to attack Ratliffe any which way he way he wanted. This was the only time I saw Kai bring up the ball and attack immediately. Some complain he was not passed to when he was sealing. He lacks the strength to make those plays even when sealing. Worse they could tap the ball for a turnover. The best idea really was for him to use his handles and attack from outside. Then use his length to have multiple follow-up attempts.

                • Indeed, one of the standout players of the UAAP Season 84 Men’s Basketball Tournament is De La Salle University’s Michael Phillips. Averaging 8.13 points, 12 rebounds, 1.31 blocks, 1.25 assists, and 1.06 steals in 16 matches this campaign, the 19-year-old big man had a stellar rookie campaign as a Green Archer so much so that […]

Mike Phillips wants to play for Gilas. I hope he can get an exception at some point.

That means we will have to stick to PF/C naturalized players like Ange or Andray.
6'7" bigs won't be a problem if they're taught to play the power forward position, like Carl Tamayo and Kevin Quiambao were. Even Justine Baltazar. Train them for mobility first and not heft.

i don't know but the mentality of Filipinos in playing basketball is dragging the country down in terms of development.

I hope that our mentality in terms of bigmen will change after a generation, especially that kids today are exposed to modern bigs in the NBA like Embiid, Jokic KAT, KP. Too bad, our coaches would still emphasize on the traditional post/back to the basket set up as its a easy win especially with the dearth of bigmen and the emphasize of coaches/managers on job security
The post should be a weapon for a few bigmen, but that shouldn't come at the cost of reps at PF. Our best 6'7"-6'8" bigs, ideally should be able to play at least both bigman positions, like for example Carl Tamayo. Not mobile enough for 3, but is a natural 4 for FIBA.

Ayun, they can use the modern bigs like Embiid and Jokić as a template. They shoot threes, yes, but are kinda mobile, and mix-and-match the shooting and their post-up game.

Heft is fine IMO. What they need is mobility and shooting.

Just look at Junemar now. If he can consistently shoot from the perimeter and beyond the arc, he's a big headache to defend.

His dinosaur coach should be blamed for this late discovery. Same goes for Aguilar and Greg.

Think Boris Diaw or Julius Randle (if we're gonna be ambitious).

Yeah, those two could be good. Even Paul Millsap or Thad Young for more versatile two-way fours. Even if our bigs don't have the athleticism that they have, at least try to replicate their skillset on both ends.

                          • Let's not emulate the NBA guys. For some reason they can maintain heft and quickness but for all other players it's one or the other. So unless you have an offensive skillset of say a Jokic or a Luka you have to surrender heft for mobility. The classic example of this is Balti. Many may disagree but his games against Korea and the Abdullah cup teams bear out that he has good enough laterals to bother perimeter players. He has to give up some strength to defend the post but that is alright. The FIBA PF's role now is not really a post up defender/threat. You look at most Euro guys they are lean.

Yup, Luka and Jokic are exceptions to the rule. Their high bball IQ, which includes the way they use their heft to their advantage would only work if said IQ is complemented by great footwork and high level skill (passing/shooting/vision etc.).
