Well, it is better to have a material to start with than nothing. Besides, Tratter is just 28. He has a good 3-4 years for the national team. If we got Pingris in Gilas at age 32, why not Tratter?

I'm wondering how feasible is it to develop an athletic 6'7 /6'8 active defensive though big like a Rodman? Or a 6 7 Ping to me is a missing piece for Gilas, we lack the thoughness.
Actually, we have some toughness with Tamayo. But yeah, more tough big guys would help. A bigger Ping or a bigger RDO with better defense would be nice.

Baltazar also plays with some toughness.

Yeah, he's tough, and deceptively strong despite his frame. Hopefully he can improve further his ability to defend the post while not compromising his ability to switch.

Hard times made Marc Pingris stronger and tough. His French father abandoned him and his Filipino mother very early in his childhood, leaving them basically with nothing. His mother was a vendor in a wet market and Pringris as a kid helped her selling fruits, fish and whatever you could think of. They were so poor that they had no place to live in. They slept right in the market. Marc Pingris had a thin piece of sack which he laid on the floor and that was his bed in the marketplace.

which is the opposite experience of Kobe Paras, a life of fame and luxury. Combine Kobe's gifts with Ping's grit and you have an NBA player.

                Agree.
I have this feeling that Paras seem to have not worked on the basic fundamentals of the game - ball handling & shooting, becoz he thinks that his athleticism & size (good size small forward) would more than compensate for such shortcomings.

                  Ok.

BTW, isn't Tratter psrt of the "23 for 2023" Gilas cadet pool way back 2018? How time flies so fast as right now parang wala ng relevance si Tratter sa current Gilas pool.

I can't help but wish that if only some of Tratter's athleticis would have gone to Carl Tamayo. That would be great sana.

Yeah, he was part of the 23 for 2023 lineup. Shame that many of the players there couldn't play for Gilas. Most of the bigs there, however, have played at least one game for Gilas, Tratter being one of them.

Man, Tratter could have been a nice small-ball four for Gilas, a legitimate combo forward. He had some speed and athleticism to go along with his strength, which might make him as viable as Ping in the 4-spot. Hope he can still develop his defense like Ping did. He's already a decent offensive player, with a good post game and a midrange shot.

Will some of these guys highlighted in bold cut it as a 6'7"-6'8" active defensive tough big?

                      • Fans normally don't associate hustle and having a high motor with being talented.. i think it's part of talent.. as it is really rare to have this trait. if can find a decent size and mobile player that has that trait ( hard worker and high motor) that is special

Probably, a more realistic is a 6'7-6'8 Nick Belasco or Abuda type of player.

We'll need a 6'7"-6'8" version of these people. If not possible, kahit 6'6" lang. Kahit hustle lang, one who fights for rebounds and has a good nose for the ball, kahit 'di gaano ka-athletic.

Yeah, a 2 to 3 inches height upgrade of the players mentioned would have a significant impact in their games. A 6-foot-6/6-foot-7 version of Mark Pingris would be a beast in Asian basketball. A 6-4 Calvin Abueva would be a big headache by opponents in Asian basketball specially the 2015 version of Abueva.

I'm a believer that even a few height increase by a player will have a significant effect in his capabilities.
