For the rest, low-post scoring, shooting, and/or defense and ability to play the 4 is enough.

Man, I hope we produce more of these two bigs.
Baltazar looks like he's gonna play the 3 or small-ball 4 a lot. He's found a shooting touch against MENA teams.

Tamayo looks more like a big who combines the skills of a traditional big (pounding the ball inside, post game) and those of a perimeter player (handle, shooting). He just needs some room to grow. Among our current Gilas players, he has one of the highest upsides on the team. Hope he fulfills it and goes to some overseas league.

Brook Lopez and Bam on Team USA would have been an interesting combo.
Well, looks like the Heat are hellbent on keeping Bam at C so far. They kept Dedmon while getting Lowry and Tucker.

          • Damn my best case scenario for Baltazar is to develop into our Duncan Robinson, https://youtu.be/qLlwI0Mg29o

I hink he's better off transitioning into a fully perimeter oriented player since he seems weak and undersized when playing against international 4s and centers. I just hope he develops well enough to keep playing as a 3, the percentage isn't there yet, coming into 2023 hopefully he wont have anymore 2/10 shooting nights. He seems like he could be the perfect second option on offense.

In sense Banky's (shouldve been his nickname) mother side is the one that does have a Filipino blood.
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
              1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

Baltazar's transition from a traditional big man into a small ball-4 is remarkable considering that he started the transition only this year. Makes me think how much better Baltazar would be right now playing as a small ball-4 if he started the transition 2 years ago. Baltazar is now 24 yrs old.

With that, I'm already thinking at how much improvement a 20-year old Carl Tamayo would gain in 2 to 3 yrs time being involved in the Gilas program at such as an early age.

That is why I'm thinking that it would be very very beneficial for Phi basketball that our young big men at the amateur ranks like Lantaya, Lepalam, Salvoro, Demisana, Perciano, Quiambao, etc., would be enlisted into the Gilas program as early as possible. Huwag na nilang hintayin umabot pa sila ng 24 or 25 yrs old before they join the Gilas program. Who knows some of these aforementioned young bigs would be another Justin Baltazar or Ranidel Deocampo being small ball-4's. Or maybe some would be small ball-5 like South Korean local center Kim Jongkyu.

Sadly, some of these promising young bigs are handled by groups or people who aren't friendly with SBP. For as long as involved pa rin sa basketball si Poblador, este si "Long Hair", meron talagang malaking bueset sa Philippine basketball.

                  • EPISODE 2: FUTURE 6'11 GILAS PILIPINAS FORWARDKilalanin natin ang Ateneo de Cebu player na si Ramon Salvoro. Siguro ay madami sa inyo ang magtatanong dahil n...

I don't know if the plan by Salvoro to play high school basketball for the Ateneo de Cebu/Sacred Heart School panned out. Well, I hope so. And I hope he ends up playing college basketball with Ateneo De Manila University. Huwag lang sya mapunta sa mga berde or sa Letran ni Long Hair. Heaven forbid.

Salvoro looks promising. Imagine a 6-foot-11 version of Kim Jongkyu or a 6-10 version of Justin Baltazar.

                    • What's Salvoro's wingspan? seems like his arms are almost at knee level, looks like the perfect ape index for basketball freaks. This kid's potential would be far beyond local leagues if developed right.

He really looks like he has ridiculous wingspan, which of course is a significant upside. And as early as when he was 15 yrs old, medyo maganda na dribbling skills nya na parang natural lang sa kanya. I'm always impress with good size or tall players who exhibit decent handles at a young age. Usually kasi pag ang big man ay may desenting dribbling at a young age, its almost certain na he would end up having decent ball handling for his entire basketball career.

BTW, for those in the know, how was Justin Baltazar when he was 17 or 18? Did he exhibit some promise at that time?

A promising bigman at 18. He displayed his low post moves and perimeter shooting during a UAAP jr finals between NU and Adamson. But what intrigued me more was the 6'5 15yo Carl Tamayo who stood his ground against Baltazar.

Only chance they develop is overseas, there are smart minds in the country but the $ will always stifle them.

I hope that kid had a passport before 16, looks like a perfect size for the 4 spot. Hopefully not another Kai Balungay situation.
