I feel the 4 and 5 positions will be our strongest in the long run. I hope this holds true in the long run, but this is a good start.
How's Balti's defense? I think that's his biggest weakness right now. He got exposed against Thailand and Korea.

      This is expecred

Our NP is a BIG. Our Best Local Skilled Tall Player is a BIG.

In fact I think 4/5 best players are Bigs.

Best Players in the pool are obviously: Kai, Ange, Carl, Balti, and the only Wing is Dwight.

These are facilitators, more like Point Forwards. Draymond is a combination of high high high IQ, swag, reputation and good..err great teammates. So that's a reach. I also like Paul Milsap. He is the ultimate short big man, who operates in the shaded lane and have a good perimeter J.

          • Because of what Kai and Kouame provide, we're basically set at Center. so in terms of need it's better that we develop AJ Edu and other bigs as 4's for FIBA..

if Kai or Ange is not available for whatever reason.... who will be our backup 5? we happy with Chiu and Go?
I'd rather have AJ, if healthy of course, in a 15man lineup and just moving in to play on certain games then Chiu. unless there is a big jump in his game. having said that, Chiu > Carino\ Rangel

Pretty much. Hopefully youth coaches could see the value of their 6'6"-6'8" bigs being able to play both 4 and 5 as opposed to playing just 5.

They'd be more versatile, plus we can add more bigs to the national team.

                • Here is the thing about AJ, he hasn't played in 2 years, he 's got 1 season left with Toledo. So 1st thing is , he has to play and develop into a "type of player.

now assuming he becomes a respectable 4/5 big. then yes u can use him either as a center or PF, but as you wil notice when Kai and Kouame are avaialble there is zero minutes left at center. and if AJ turns out into a decent talent , it would be waste if he cannot get any PT . so it forces you to use him at the 4 spot ( and hopefully he develops a decent 4 game by then to be valuable

Basically it is smarter for AJ to try to get playing time in lieu of Baltazar, rather than try to competed vs Kai and Ange for minutes

I thought he was redshirted for a year because of his injury, and didn't lose a year of eligibility?

I dont know the reason for his knee injuries. It might be from going hard for those blocks. IMO Edu was miscast as a defensive specialist C. He has good laterals, timing and leaping ability. But by all accounts he doesnt have a great wingspan. IRC its 6'10 and he is 6'10 tall. That is not enough for a center.

Toledo should have trained his other skills like shooting and dribbling instead of letting him just focus on shot blocking and rebounding.Poor kid. I dont know if he has developed his skills with all the injuries. But I see him more as a 4 or small ball 5. Actually before college I liked his handles. This is an example of a college program being bad for a player. Kai is correct to not have taken that route. He might not have been able to develop his driving skills like what happened to Edu.

Toledo, have a need for a shot blocking 5/4 which AJ is capable of,As for Kai he has a different set of skills,in college they would have use him more as a midrange shooting 5,and post up man on a mismatch. It seems everybody wants our boys to miss college and just go pro, kids need education too and you can't pass up playing basketball and having a college education, which will serve them in the future after basketball.

And Magat is now a rim-running big in the PBA. Troy is still just a stretch 4 that knows how to cut, and is a defensive liability against both forward positions.

Maybe it's the way they were developed in the PBA.

Even Ant Semerad is now a stretch big when he was a legit SG SF in college. Dude used to lock up opposing PGs now he's defending bigs

So we have Jeff Napa, Goldwyn Monteverde, Aldin Ayo, Yeng Guiao, Topex Robinson, and Tim Cone (if he counts as a local). But, I just feel like a lot of local coaches use finished products, as in the big already has that skill instead of developing it from scratch. As far as I know, only Yeng develops that skillset from scratch, like what happened with Beau and Quiñahan. Monteverde too, with Tamayo and Quiambao. I hope the same is true of Ayo and Topex, and Napa as well.

But still, Jeff Napa letting Baltazar play like that, that gives us hope for Basti Reyes.
