  • Guys, how are young bigs Umpad & Lepalam developing? Are they your traditional big men or are they your modern day bigs - quick, mobile & has an outside game? And how tall are they right now?
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Hay, nako. Our local 6'6"-6'8" bigs have to be trained to play alongside FSA's as a forward. Thing is, even if those local bigs have the ability to play alongside FSA's, coaches usually play them behind the FSA.
I think the problem is with development in high school. Since there is no fsa, taller players are automatically relegated to Center position and that’s 4-5 years from ages of 14-19 playing Center during crucial development years where a player is still figuring out and developing into what kind of player they are\will be. I think once they come to college they already have a position they are already trending towards, they are recruited from high school playing that position. The development playing other positions needs to come earlier.

Maybe by training in the pros or seniors or allowing fsa in high school but something needs to happen as well for high school

Coupled with the fact that there is little conception of small-ball if there is a player who measures 6'4" and above, ayun. Plus, looks like those taller players aren't given enough freedom to play from the perimeter, which exacerbates the problem.

Hopefully coaches train their centers here to play more like Chris Bosh or AD (versatile, can drive and shoot, mobile) than say, Zaza Pachulia (good paint defender and rebounder, solid midrange that's it)

Arellano had a strong lineup before but they always underperformed. Heck one of their strongest lineup gets defeated by the Super 6

That Loyola Chicago win is a great example of why every NBA team is looking for bigs who can switch/guard PnR. It’s almost impossible to stay on the floor in the NBA if you can’t defend a ball screen. One of the big reasons why Evan Mobley projects so well at the next level.

            • The Center of Loyola reminds me a bit of Jokic or Go, I think they called him a point Center. He’s good

They are 6'6 in site I used. Maybe not updated and inaccurate.

But yeah they belong to that list

I thought Aldrech was only 6'4 when he was measured in the draft..

hahaha. this is funny tho Ramos listed 6’6” in the UAAP and FIBA. In the PBA he’s 6’4” plus, i don’t know how accurate the PBA measurement even the imports are getting smaller here. if lebron is 6’8” he will be 6’5” here.hahaha. Here in interbasket height is always the debate. kahit konti lang ang difference..hehehe
                    LA Clippers(bcoz of PG13)

I thought he was 6'7 when he was with FEU. They say they take their height when your lying down so it was supposed to be accurate though I have no idea how some imports pass the height requirements. Some are obviously made up. Which is why I was asking if they were strict with their draft measurements this year because some grew an inch or two

I think both are still around 6'8".

Even if Ong (and Baltazar and Tamayo for that matter) 'only' ends up becoming a mobile versatile 4-5, that's still a win for us. Now we are getting some true small-ball bigs who compensate for their lack of size with versatility. What's more, these guys can play PF, which is what I want from our young 6'6"-6'8" bigs. They have the size and mobility for the position. Hoping for more in the future.

The presence of Ange, Kai and hopefully AJ for the next 10 years at least.. kind of allows all other bigs ( or tall players- 6' 7 above) to focus on being more of a forward...

They also got Cadavis, Holts and Caperal as the main bigs. Even the earlier lineups weren't that bad with the Ciriacruz bros , Acidre, Celada
