    • This is maybe a late reaction. But what????

Poy Erram and Justin Chua looks like bitter in Imports because usually they are same position.

      And Mikee also agrees. Yikes

Banning imports in College will force a player like maybe Dwight Ramos to Play Center

People forget, center is not the only big position. There's also the PF spot. If the local bigs being 'replaced' don't want their minutes cut, they have to learn to play PF. Maybe they'll see more minutes there, and actually would be more beneficial to them, since a lot of Pinoy bigs are undersized. PF kinda offers more leeway to bigs to play outside the paint.

Agree with you. Instead of competing for minutes, these players should learn skills that are complementary to their FSA’s so they can share the floor with them.

Plus, that will make them even more useful when playing center, as they will be more versatile.

We have a height-is-might mindset, but that only seems to apply to centers, not PFs. You'd think archaic-minded coaches would apply that to both positions.

I think JDV can play some small forward but it all depends on the match-up. I think JDV will be able to hang on there defending guys like Sean Anthony or Kevin Ferrer or Arwind Santos at the 3 spot.

A prime JDV would have been a perfecr stretch-4 for Gilas if only he is eligible. I see JDV as some sort of a taller RDO.
I agree, JDV could have been a perfect small-ball big. He could pass (but sometimes his passes are ill-timed), he could defend the post, he could shoot, he could drive.

If only we could mold some offensively talented 6'6"-6'8" homegrown bigs into versions of JDV instead of just relegating them to rebounders and paint presences. We really need to change our big man development culture. Carl Tamayo and Kevin Quiambao do offer some hope. Yeng too, with the Extra Rice duo and some of his other bigs in RoS and NLEX. Hopefully we can develop our bigs into legitimate small-ball bigs.

Not only that,a big man that can play the PF position is very beneficial to a team or Gilas if they decided to go "small but quick and skilled" group on the floor, they don't have to give too much on the height in the middle, when the PF/C is on the floor with small ball.

                • Since the 4 spot is considered a big man position, I'll post this one here. I believe the PBA players whom our young potential "fours" should emulate are RDO, Devance, Danny Seigle, Kelly Williams & Jay Washington.

While Danny Seigle played mostly as a 3 during his prime, his skill set was that of a modern day "four". Kelly Williams on the other hand was a tweener who was a defense specialist.

I think among the 5 players I mentioned, Danny Seigle had the best offensive skills while Kelly Williams is the best defender.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Those guys are underrated. Probably because the PBA lost a lot of viewers in the last decade. Ican't remember prime Kelly. I only remembered sick Kelly and injured Kelly and he's still a good defender even against imports.

                      • I agree with Jamskie.

Danny S is very lucky. He was able to play the 3 position. Because Coach Jong uses Danny I at 4 and Pena at 5.

Meaning, they are not lacking in Bigs. If you remove Danny I in that team, I would say Danny S will play 4 and Pena at 5.

Coach Jong actually have slight modern style rin naman.

As for Kelly, he was a 3 in Sta Lucia also. Kelly at 3, Dennis Espino at 4, and Marlou Aquino at 5. That is MVP Kelly.
Then he is converted to Modern 4/5 in TNT cause of lack of Bigs (They only had Ali peek)

That trend is the opposite of IPC's Modern 4 to Wing 3 transition.

Instead, this is Wing 3 to Modern 4 transition.

Will be the converse be as effective? I hope and think so.
