As for kobe, i think it is not the talent problem, it is the mental problem. Pretty much like Japeth.

Japeth and Kobe are our Most Gifted Homegrown Players athletically, but their mind is the problem. Japeth developed very late, maybe around 28. Maybe Kobe will mature in that age too.

Still, I am hoping for the best for Kobe. During his younger days, A lot of people including me thought he can be better than his father. But it is not the case so far
Remember when we used to defend Japs too early in his career? That his coach isn't using him correctly, they're too hard on him, they're not playing him enough, his teammates aren't passing him the etc. He's too good to be playing this bad, hell he dribbles the ball yhe same way as KD, he should be the star of team. It's always someone else' fault.

Then we see a pattern. He just isn't as good as we thought he was. He doesn't love the game that much. His body language is terrible. And he has bad BBIQ. Clips doesn't always tell the whole story. Sounds familiar?

Infairness though Kobe toned down his trash talking and showboating and was pretty mature inside the court last year. That's a start. Aguilar eventually matured and grew. Kobe can still can

As for Japeth, it took being coached by Tim Cone for him to mature and be more effective as a basketball player. Buti nga si Kobe, willing to do the dirty work and defend last window. Little things. That was probably a sign that he can mature, I agree. Like mathematician said, he might be a late bloomer too.

Hopefully one with better defense, and can guard the perimeter as well as the interior.

For me as long as he has 6'7 wingspan that is enough. Wingspan and athleticism are more important than height.

yup, it was in the news but it was not played up much because a lot of stars have to be protected by the showbiz companies. just google the key words and everything will be shown.

If he stayed in Creighton even if just being 8th - 12th man on the bench it would have greatly helped his game and he would have been utilized as a SG-SF.

                • Yuta is listed as small forward but he’s versatile enough to play multiple positions on both ends. Good player to look at especially on defense.

Thus the "personal reasons" party with the gutierrez family and kobe got isolate himself because of that..

He could've been the alpha male for creighton at his 3rd year..

Hopefully our local youth coaches watch tape can look at how he plays and develop our bigs to play like him. Sana nga, we produce more bigs that play like Watanabe.

The players too should copy this guys attitude. He really worked hard to be where is at right now. Ok he still needs a full contract but you could see how he never gave up his NBA dream and just did everything to stick with a team. Imagine coming to America without knowing a single word of English and just had to learn everything. Sometimes being born with talent isn't enough. You really have to have focus and commitment and dedication to your craft.

                          • i used to defend Kobe and had high hopes for him. But not joining the bubble for me was a great disappointment especially when he violated covid protocols and partied like an idiot. The February games against Korea and a much improved Indonesia are supposed to be great opportunities for him to gauge his progress. Not joining the bubble means he will fall behind learning the system of Tab. It means not being able to jell and develop more rapport with the cadets. It means not being trained by the best coach in the country right now in Tab. I respected his decision not join the bubble due to personal reasons but to see him partying and violating health protocols shows that his head is not screwed tightly. If only he could transfer his abilities to Andre who is a certified workhorse.

This post makes me sad. Exactly feel the same way. All this while, I thoughtnhe was dealing with something serious.

Even if both of them remain a classic 4, if they're versatile, that would still be good. Bigs their size generally have to be developed to be versatile 4-men on either end. Transitioning to a small-ball 4, which is a wing, is a bonus for such men. Hope Raven Cortez can be developed the same way.

On the other hand, guys who are around 6'4"-6'6" should be developed into small-ball 4's if ever they play the 4. Guys like Navarro, Oftana, Javi.
