Kobe is about to fall hard when it comes to his basketball career. He will likely join showbiz and Andre will be the one having a decent career as a hard working Pingris prototype.
the kid could have been the face of Philippine basketball for this generation, too bad all the success went to his head, another wasted potential, luckily he's still young and could still improve, still remember the days when numerous IBN posters called him the Luka Doncic of the Philippines.

      Correct.

Baltazar is being envisioned by the Gilas coaches as a "four". I think when coach Tab said that he is envisioning Baltazar to play as a wing, he was actually referring to Balti playing as a small ball four.

Playing the PF position is my minimum expectation not just for him, but for all bigs his size.
Let's see. He is mobile for a big. And his length helps him cover space when his foot speed cannot keep up. Of all the cadets he was the one singled out by Tab. I think the work ethic is there for him. He is the only homegrown UAAP big who kept toe to toe with imports. Let's put it this way. If Tab can't turn him into a decent perimeter player nobody can.

        • Its a bit funny that some 4 years ago, most Pinoy fans felt that Kobe Paras had around 50% chance of making it to the NBA.

Right now, I think most of us here thinks Kobe doesn't even have a 1% chance of making it to the NBA.

Correct. Balti working to hone wing skills (ball handling, outside shooting, dribble drive & perimeter defense) would only mean developing himself as a quality small ball four, which for me is great. I would be happy to see Baltazar turning out to be a taller Troy Rosario, but perhaps with more toughness & physicality than Troy.

he could still make it, though a long shot, he regressed too much and his window making it to the NBA is slowly closing

Bro I'd be happy for him if he could at least play the same level as CJ in the PBA. Is that a super long shot? Or is he just another Papa Rey na talaga.

Japs, Kiefer, Ray at least those guys are bigtime PBA players right now. Could Kobe play at the same level?

I think more than any other player, Kobe probably thought too much of himself when the only advantage he had then was he was bigger and more physically developed than his peers. There were signs actually that Kobe wasn't all that during Fiba 3x3 worlds. He only had one go to move. Drive hard and if stopped do a spin move. It worked for a couple of games but eventually his game was read and he was stopped. Ricci actually had a better performance than him. Because Ricci could actually dribble.

His older brother is better than him. The former knows his limitations and works within them and takes advantage of his strenghts--athleticism and strength. Kobe doesn't seem to understand that he is not a good basketball player. He is just athletic. He has shaky handles and shaky shooting. He might have good vision but that won't amount much if lacks the other two. He doesn't accept that he has tons to work on if he wants to consider himself a wing. The sad thing is Tab would actually give him the chance to be one. Maybe he realizes that he isn't really a 3. And either doesn't want to do the work to improve his handles and shooting or is afraid that he will fail and and his ego can't take it. Baltazar is less fluid and explosive as him but has good basics and doesn't have his ego.

When Kobe failed to catch one of the lobs he is so fond of. Who caught it and put it in the basket? Baltazar. That goes to show the difference in values the two have. And what gives a better probability of success.

                  • I hope we could produce a 6'7-6'8 Renz Abando. Has good to very good handles, very good motor, good agility (can keep up even with the quickest guards), above average athleticism and consistent shooting (48% field goal,at least 37% 3 point shooting).

Bro, could it be a case of Kobe, even as far back as 4 years ago, was able to recognize & determine his weaknesses like shaky ball handling & suspect outside shooting but was thinking that he could compensate for such flaws with his sheer athleticism & size?

I have a feeling that ganoon yung mentality ni Kobe eh. I have this feeling that all these years Kobe hasn't put enough effort to really address his flaws in dribbling/ball handling & shooting. Kinulang sa hard work kung baga.

Look at Kiefer Ravena, some 4 years ago, he had a suspect 3-pt. shot. That is in fact Kiefer's major flaw in his game some 4 years ago. But look at how much improvement Kiefer's 3-pt. shooting has become right now. Di mo na sya pweding pabayaang bukas sa tres. You can sense Kiefer made special attention to polish his outside shooting. Merong focus sa aspect ng kanyang game which used to be a flaw.

Hate to say it but he's closer to a Papa Rey than a CJ.

kiefer even to US to train with some nba guys (lillard) and play in some pro am games.. and later became practice player with g-league team texas legends and practicing with borderline nba/g league talents helped him..

I even find it too much of an expectation to expect Kobe to make a CJ Perez like impact in the PBA. I'll be very satisfied seeing Kobe making a Japeth Aguilar type of an impact in the PBA.
