FAR EASTERN University mainstay Mac Baracael was shot tonight,

          July 24, 2008.

Baracael was reported to have been with teammates Ron Cabagnot and Robert Kave outside the FEU gym when a car drove by and a shot simultaneously heard.

After Cabanot and Kave looked around, they saw a bloodied Baracael on the ground. The shooting occurred at the corner of Morayta and R. Papa streets, near a Philtrust bank branch.

Cabagnot and Kave said that they did not see who fired the shot. Unconfirmed reports say that Baracael was shot twice at the back with a .45 caliber, with the bullets penetrating his body.

As of presstime, Baracael is in critical condition at the Mary Chiles Hospital in Sampaloc, Manila.

This is a horrific and unfortunate incident that warrants our thoughts and prayers.

inboundpass.com is one with Baracael’s family, loved ones and the entire FEU and basketball community in praying for his speedy recovery.

thank God he's ok. FEU really needs him in their campaign this season. he's one of the pillars in FEU's offense and defense.

The guy's a great player, a good kid and I hope he'll make it through this.

Whoever did this to him should be caught and brought to justice.

I suspect it has something to do with the College Gambling syndicates.

It might be that Baracael did not follow the line, and they want to make him an example, or something like that.

Its sad, but college basketball is so big here, that the criminals have their hand on it. Remember Orbeta of CSB, and Bonbon Custodio of UE? There were allegations of game-fixing related to those guys.

Well for now, the priority is not about him being included in their campaign, lets hope that he survives and becomes healthy.

MANILA, Philippines—(UPDATE) A UAAP basketball player is fighting for his life after a lone gunman shot him twice late Thursday night.

Mac Baracael, 23, a junior forward of the Far Eastern University, was shot around 8:40 p.m. by an unknown assailant with a .45 pistol, near Philtrust, at the corner of Morayta and R. Papa streets.

Anton Montinola, FEU's representative to the UAAP board, said Baracael was "fighting for his life" at Mary Chiles hospital.

Baracael was walking with teammates Ron Cabagnot and Robert Kave to buy food after the team's practice when he was shot.

I hope FEU, and the rest of the UAAP organization, comes up with reward money for the capture of Baracael's would-be assassin. The bigger the reward money, the better.

Once that would-be hitman has millions of reward money on his head, it will only be only a matter of time, before he gets caught.
