Rpyt
If the RPYT is going to scrimage with other teams, they should get a legit travel team to play against. There are tons of travel team (AAU team ) here in LA. I am sure Hooptown organizer ( jeff and Greg) can get hold of one. Unless they are trying to play against kids who they( Coach Pumaren)will try to recruit later but why recruit benchwarmers.? The other kids are college students , they probably can use them for the older team if RP has one.
RPYT should be trying to get better so we will have a chance in international competition. RPYT does not have the height but they are fast. I am sure they have some quick guards and hopefully the coaches will develop them to get better.
The team needs to start putting on weight. They need to hit the weight room.Be a big fish in a small pond or a small fish in a Big pond

Regarding the RP Youth Team's 1st game against the Hooptown All-Stars, you have to give them credit for coming down from a 24 point deficit to win the game. It takes a lot of character to be able to do that.
The RP Youth team had been losing blow out games in their stint in the PBL, but in the game against the Hooptown All-Stars, they were able to come back & win the game.
I think in the 2nd between these 2 teams, both teams will pull out all stops & we'll finally be able to see their true games.

The RPYT players will get better. Whether they will be ready by May for the Kuala Lumpur competition is another matter. But they will definitely get better playing better competition. They also scrimmaged against Long Beach Jordan HS and Cal State Long Beach, just fyi.

Hooptown organized the event to showcase the talents of its own players and provide the RPYT coaches an opportunity to take a look at potential recruits: they may be talking to Kyle Pascual right now. Unfortunately, two other potential recruits, Holper and Philips, did not show up because of volleyball games in their high schools.
I have not seen any stats for these kids Holper and Philips. Doyou know where we can find them? Is Kyle Pascual going to the Phillipines for college? Not being recruited here in the states?
GOOD LUCK RPYT

The problem of playing AAU traveling team is that school is still in session in the States. The top AAU teams recruit players not only from within their own town but from out of state. Kevin Love who plays for UCLA has been part of an LA base AAU team for at least 2 years before going to UCLA and he went to a Portland, Oregon high school. The AAU season does not start until June went school is out and the teams are fully stocked with players.
Since the youth team is training in Carson City, the coaching staff should get the college players who are honing their skills in the Abunassar center prior to the draft. The boys will suffer a lot of blow outs but they will get a chance to compete with better competition before the 2 Asian tournaments they will be playing in.
In 2 weeks, the various summer leagues in Manila will commence. The top college teams are finalizing their roster for the coming season. They to will be a good test for the youth team. My understanding is that they were previously blown away by DLSU and ADMU's varsity team. A game with ADMU team B should be a good match but ADMU's team B still has more size than the youth team.

You have the Fil-Oil tournament, then that Nike Summer basketball league, plus the new tournament ABS-CBN is cooking up.

It will definitely help their preparations. I wonder how they would do against SAN BEDA?

Kevin Love is an exception, there are many local AAU team who are playing right now. They are getting ready for April Travel Tournament where HS kids are recruited by different colleges. It might not be a bad idea to go to this tournament and recruit some Fil Ams. This April - there is a big tournament in Colorado and Las vegas. The only problem is if the kid is good in AAU team , they are most likely being recruited by D1 schools in US. The benchwarmers but tall Fil am are the once willing to play in RP since competition is not as competetive as here in US. A better way may be allowing Fil Ams to train here and go to school here ( US) and on summer or spring break play with the RP youth team in the Philippines.
After College, it might be easier to recruit Fil Ams. Most of this kids are not going to the NBA so they might choose RP instead of Europe .
