By the way, Pingris' hometown is "Pozzorubio".

Jessie Cabanayan came from St Louis University in Baguio. His most striking feature was his resemblance to Johnny Abarrientos.

Marc Pingris was part of that 1999 FEU squad who lost to DLSU on that year's Final 4.. as rookie, he averaged only close to 3 mins. per ballgame. he have to share the playing minutes with fellow rookies of the Tamaraws like Rhagnee Sinco, Gerard Jones, Mark Isip, Dennis Miranda, Cesar Catli, Don Yabut. noted rookies on that year were Rich Alvarez of ATENEO, Paul Artadi and James Yap of UE, Joseph Yeo of DLSU.. DLSU capped their Back to Back Championship on that year beating UST in Three Games..

the most surprising player was jessie cabanayan formerly of purefoods. he played good and showed signs of brilliance inside the court but he just disappeared without a trace. most likely because of his height, he was never signed up again.

Actually, when you talk to Marc Pingris personally ( we used to call him Tisoy in FEU ), his accent is more of a Bisaya rather than being a Pangalatok or Ilokano...

going back to the topic. i guess danny and rommel didn't really surprise the pro league because even in the pbl, they were hyped to be the next best big men in the pba. in the country, if you're a 6'6 and above you'll be surely drafted by pba teams
Not so, there were a lot of bigmen in the amatuer leagues that didn't make to the PBA because they don't hav what it takes to be a PBA player. Remember Raul Dillo? Well, he made it to the MBA but he never made it to the PBA.But I totally agree with you with regards to our college coaches. Man, they will force a 6'6" guy to play center even though the guy wants to play forward thus stagnating the player's development in basketball.

Arnie Tuadles. While he wasn't really an unknown commodity in the MICAA, he surprised everyone with his impressive showing for Toyota earning him the Rookie of the Year award and being the first rookie to join the Mythical Five.

How about Rey Cuenco, Tonichi Yturri? They're suprised in PBA.

Not Danny I. A former superstar in NU and then MVP in the PBA
