Looking at it a different way, the league consists mostly of the supposedly top 50 players.

On popularity of the sport, that was my point before. It needs to be improved throughout grassroots first because like I said, it's really only volleyball when it comes to girls. Having a pro league will just be a novelty if there's no viable pipeline of future talents. And after clamoring for better grassroots, we get an imbalanced 4-team (premier) youth league.
    Sir Mets,

that is why it's important to stage games inside school campuses like the one held in UST Centennial gym recently.

there is a lot of elbow room for improvement moving forward in the youth division compared to the Senior division and for me personally it's okay.

attracting 14 teams for this Invitational conference is a good sign considering it is just a "warm up"

in preparation for that historic 1st Conference this coming June.

as I said playing venues are very essential to attract kids to watch the ballgames esp. if it is regularly held in school's backyard.

I don't think it will falls down into a novelty thing considering Coach Haydee Ong mentioned before in a live interview eventually

posted in every broadsheet and online news platform that before she accepted the position alongside Sen Pac and Sen Tol that

they should have 5 year plan for it otherwise she will not accept it.

as I said to my previous posted msg. we do hope they could collab with the SBP as an ideal setup moving forward.

that 4-team that you've mentioned will surely be increase.

the important thing is " The Seeds are already been planted, baby steps moving forward".

yes they discovered few talents from the Visayas and Mindanao area but not on it's totality.

we've only heard and watched coach Pat Aquino and coach Norman Black's previous interview

that there's an abundance of talents on those places when they conducted several clinics and orientation as part of their talend ID

but other than that we haven't seen nor watch any HS Girls basketball formed in that area(s).

maybe because womens volleyball and womens football are more mainstream

and girls basketball are more low profile(?) on those provinces?

anyway, let's wait for the official inauguration in the mid-year for the official opening of the very first official womens professional basketball league

    the 1st Season of WMPBL.

yup birth pains womens basketball badly needed that.

    "what I'm talking about??".

it seems odd but challenges like that makes the foundation more stable

because all of us are learning from that experience both good and bad

and I'm fully aware the MPBL organizers are fully aware of it.

we do hope that they could somehow put a basketball clinic as part of the grassroot development plan mentioned by

incoming Sen. Pac during his recent meeting with the team owners and stakeholders of his MPBL brand.

I think collaborating with the SBP is the ideal and the wise thing moving forward.

rumors and murmuring about rifts(?) between SMB/MVP camp and Pac camp are just "make belief"

    we don't need that.

there's a lot of talent on womens basketball here and abroad specifically product of US Div. 1 programs.

hiring foreign coaches must not be an onion as well.

maybe they could lure former Div 1 players turned coaches like HS coach Maria Pizarro and Asst. coach Chinew Ezeounu to be part of the coaching staff

one of these days, who knows.

In a gathering Sunday with MPBL team owners in preparation for the league’s 7th Season, Pacquiao bared his grand plan to keep cultivating the sport starting at the grassroots level.

Yung plano ko talaga is nationwide, inter-barangay para lahat ng grassroots level (talents) ma-discover natin, mabigyan ng chance. By stage sila, from barangay to Junior MPBL then MPBL,” the former eight-division world champion said at the Milky Way Cafe in Makati City.
Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao is nowadays focused instead on the sport he first fell in love with – basketball.

This is great opportunity for FSAs from UAAP to have their career after UAAP.. most of those WMPBL teams will recruit imports who played for UAAP as FSAs unless they have big budget to hire Ex WNBA players... Favour Onoh can stay here after UAAP and gather residency for some time to grant her possible local status in the future in FIBA competitios.. This is one of my advocate why women's basketball here needs atleast semi professional league.. And it's good news that they allow to hire Fil-foreigners.. like Favour Onoh, we can search for those Fil-foreigners if they are good to get addition for Gilas program and they are good enough even they are not eligible as local in FIBA yet, it's still a good sign.. they can just use residency too just like we are doing in men's basketball in PBA such as Slaughter, Newsome and Lassiter...

It's good for the league and now they should focus on the grassroots

This writer was pleasantly surprised watching the Manny Pacquiao’s Women’s Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.

109-15 ouch. That's the type of score that happens when one team can't even bring the ball down. NU must've pressed the whole game. Now it's clear why not many more schools joined, lack of capable players.

Now if we want our homegrowns to have the quality of our Filfor ladies (who are mostly "full-blooded"), we need to improve grassroots first. Having just 4 high school teams in the land will not cut it.

Let's not rest on our laurels and say that we are already making stride in the sport. A big factor of this is because it is much more unpopular/unsupported in other countries. Now is the time to get ahead while that is still the case.

there's a lot of foreign based hafus who will be graduating and recently graduated but wants to continue playing the game

also I think they could also use this as a warm up league for a possible offer in Taiwan, China, Japan and even Australia

were VDJ was rumoured receiving some juicy offers after her stint at Duke.

I think it will go well.. it will take some time... We are already have a team in Gilas women in youth competition.. so grassroots are working already, they are also having clinics for training for girls too.. The only way it will boom dramatically if our Gilas women team will reach atleast semis or getting a medal either asian games or Fiba Asia cup...
