Here's one thing that can drastically improve the development of our girl basketball players...

Notice how our Filam girls (despite having the exact same genes) are so good. This is mainly because they grow up training and playing against boys. For about a decade now, at the youth stages (about up to around 12U), there are girls who join top club teams who are usually for boys. All our top Filam girls did this, Caitlin Clark did this and most D1 prospects did this. Girls can compete with the boys right up until the growth spurt and athleticism of boys kick in. Once these girls reach high school, after playing against boys they then play several years up (usually making/starting at varsity even as freshmen). This is the reason why these girls are very skilled and has good bbiq.

This is something very tangible that we can implement locally and it will improve quality. Our goal should be to produce homegrown D1 women. It is more feasible than men's D1 because athleticism and size is less of a factor in the womens game. And then having more D1 homegrowns will elevate our national team. That is where funding should be geared. Once we get a healthy number of homegrown D1s, then that maybe the time for a pro league.

    Build grassroots, there's no shortcut.

The only way to strengthen daw is to have a professional or semi-pro league.

We can keep putting up pro leagues for football, baseball, cricket, ice hockey or whatever and it still will not work unless there's a viable source of fans and players along with a feasible business model for owners. It starts with the fans because that is where the money will come from and the young fans are also the source of future players.

You need a growing people who care.

mostly california schools and one from east coast for sophia.. one of them i think is CSUN who recruited Kobe..

Tiffany Reyes and tyler Reyes are residing right now in US.. They’re getting good exposure there especially tiffany reyes..

one thing missing while watching uaap womens is jack animam height girls.. mostly around 6ft and below. the tallest ones are FSA’s.. one player (pastrana) i thought is around 6ft and plays SG/SF but when i checked the height she’s around 5’8.. because she’s against 5’5 girls..

i open up somewhere that kacey dela rosa as a shot of making it to wnba but his height is good as guard/SF. caitlin is close on that height and she’s combo guard.. it’s good admu has FSA so that kacey can play 4 spot. para when she paired up with jack or onoh eh sanay na.. just polish her outside shots lang..

Bro... You didn't get why my point here... You're suggesting is a short term solution.. After all, all of them will play professionally in the future.. they need a league to continue their journey... How we can convince female athletes to play basketball if there is no league after college? Not all of them can play overseas or being part of Gilas.. Did you know what happened to the supposed to be female ballers like Kai's sister and Arwind Santos' daughter? They change sport because there is no future career in women basketball after college.. May pa grassroots grassroots kapa eh those young players all of them want to pursue those career if they knew if there is a career job of be taken of.. We need long term solution.. Sa tingin mo yung womens volleyball they do shortcut? No!!! They started from scratch.. Volleyball in the Philippines is not popular back in the days... But what PNVF did? They promote both grassroots, they promote the leagues even it's small (just like the Shakey's V league) and they invest on long term goals.. Do you think the F2s, Rebiscos, Cignals', etc... invest money kung malulugi sila? Before Volleyball became popular here eh nag invest na yan sila.. They gamble even they knew it was expensive... Nasa SBP na yan if they will do the same thing... Kaya naman if they have the vision.. All investments starting from scratch.. Gagastos ka talaga...

Why? Because mostly taller girls prefer volleyball as their first choice... We could have Erin Sotto (Kai's sister) as our tall female ballers but she change sport because she and her family knew that there is no league after college... There is no career.. with PVL is on the rise, the only way those female athletes convince to play basketball is to have a league after college.. Let's be real here.. pera Pera na panahon ngaun.. Habang walang Liga for womens basketball, we can't convince our female athletes to play basketball even we do a great job in grassroots level.. hahanap at hahanap sila ng Liga to play basketball after their college careers..

Why you need a D1 prospect just to have a league? In volleyball, is there are atleast 10 D1 prospects over there from college to pros? You don't need a D1 prospects just to have a league.. All we need is proper marketing, convince young female athletes that there is a career job in basketball, and long term investment... Gagastos ka talaga if you want that sport to grow.. This is why countries such as China, Korea, Japan, etc... are very successful sporting program... They are thinking long term solution not the expenses... Imagine if there is no PBA for men's basketball.. Junmar will likely a farmer, Japeth will become drummer, Castro will be a track and field athlete and so on.. Akala mo lang walang manunuod sa women's basketball.. Kulang lang sa vision, innovation, and proper marketing ang SBP to promote womens basketball...

Our Filam girls have proven that getting into high D1 programs is attainable. No need to be even a hafu or have much size. For girls growing up, this is a much better goal than just being motivated by a fly by night semi-pro league where they can play against plumbers.

What it will take though is better training and development at an early age. One thing, like I mentioned playing/training against boys. Here's Clark outplaying boys at 2nd grade...

This is not short term like what less bright critics say. It may take a while, but growing the sport at the grassroots level like this builds an organic environment for both fans and athletes. Homegrown D1 players also enables fans to have girls that they can really root for.

What is the need for a homegrown D1 player daw? He himself says a pro league just needs to have a Caitlin Clark and it will be successful. He answered his question way before he asked it.

Bro... This is what Azkals is doing in football.. grabbing players overseas left and right, did we succeed? Some of them are under academies of Spain or any European nations but why we can't succeed? How about local development? Bro, not all players have resources that Tiffany Reyes' family have.. we have lots of talents that they can't go overseas because of lack of resources... Bro, uubra lang yang sinasabi mo if SBP is helping them all of their needs to train overseas.. You're jumping too high without noticing the real situation of our womens basketball program.. Isipin mo muna how to promote the women's basketball as we see now mens volleyball... Think about the smaller steps.. Ni ayaw nga mag host ng FIBA womens world cup ang SBP eh... This is one of the big step for womens basketball to be popular.. SBP is not taking advantage of hosting Caitlin Clark and Angel Resse in the Philippines to help and grow womens basketball here... Di mo ba ma gets why many pushing for having a real league for women here? Even check some social media pages.. Having a league is not just for money or ROI.. it is all about small steps to convince our female athletes that there is career in basketball, not just only in volleyball... Look at mens volleyball development? Sabi mo di daw sikat ang Spikers turf but it gained engagement, awareness and convincing men athletes to pursue volleyball as a career.. Nakapag host pa ng FIVB men's world championships... Real talk, in terms of handling federations, PNVF is now better than SBP.. they all covered all categories.. either men, women or youth division... SBP is only focus on mens basketball... Kahit ihuli na yung supposed professional league, hosting FIBA events for women di magawa ng sbp to promote women's basketball here... Even FIBA Asia cup they can't host... Akala nila no one will watch Gilas women's team in FIBA competitions...

Homegrown D1 nga. Did you not notice the buzz that Kobe P generated? Imagine if he became successful (which is doable with womens). If you're not going to read much less understand what I've been saying then no more replies to you. You keep regurgitating your flawed ideas.

And I gave a real-world example of something that can drastically improve the quality of our players. Something that is very doable with minimal funding required...Let young girls play and train against boys right up until high school. This is a big part of how all our Filam girls are that much better than other girls.

Not all athletes have resources as Paras or Kai family to support their child's dream... Did you know Arvin Tolentino situation? He was also recruited by some US NCAA Div 1 schools.. but because no one support his dream and his family are poor (sorry for that word), he can't able to go... I'm sure many of athletes have same situation as Tolentino... If SBP has same mindset as Japan, Korea or France, it is applicable.. but not on Philippines situation... As far as we want to have many division 1 athletes, we can't afford that.. that's why another solution is to have league here especially for those who are with Tolentino's situation... Jack Animam for example, she never played any division 1 school but she is now the best player in Philippine womens basketball.. she just did hardwork, dedication despite limited support.. Paano pa kayo kung may Liga dito? Di na tayo lalayo, look at mens volleyball, even the Spikers turf is not marketable, atleast they already attract future generation of male volleyball athletes to play the sport... I'm not against your suggestion, but we have to balance the local development and overseas development.. first thing first is to attract future generations to play that sport.. especially the taller athletes.. we all know basketball is a tall mans game.. maybe aside from a propose league.. maybe sbp should host some women's event to attract new fans and new athletes to play the sport.. I hope in 2030 FIBA womens world cup, sbp should host it.. don't waste the popularity of Clark, Reese, etc... I'm sure they will inspire many female athletes to play the sport by watching them live here... It might be expensive but it will be a long term program that will gather future generations of fans and athletes to follow and play the sport... Just like mens volleyball doing right now...

Be honest to yourself and answer this....which will inspire more girls to get into basketball...the possibility of playing in a US D1 school or the possibility of playing in a semi-pro Philippine league against part-time office workers and military women. Which player becomes ultimately better, the one who aimed and trained for D1 or the one who aimed for Women's MPBL?

That is the ultimate question because we both know that the first order of business is to grow the popularity of the sport.
