P.S: The heights are quite exaggerated. Animam is only 6'2, Onoh 6'3, Panganiban 5'4, Fajardo 5'3. Abong looks a few inches smaller than Ramos, probably 5'9.
I would assume Claire Castro is out of contention unless she trims down her weight?

Tiffany is still young, we have to wait before she will be included at seniors team.. maybe at age of 17 she can be pick to play for seniors team... Palma is also good.. this is one of the reasons we why need a real league for women's basketball... Women ballers are increasing and sbp should not waste the talents of those players and give them opportunities after their college careers...

              • I heard Coach Pat still looking for Vanessa De Jesus to play for next year's FIBA womens Asia cup.. if Favour Onoh's naturalization is not yet completed (maybe it not because of election season next year, politicians are busy that time, same goes to Boatwright), She is obvious choice... But if Onoh's naturalization will be completed before the tournament, who would rather to choose as our naturalized player for Asia cup next year? A talented guard who can impact our chances or a big man that we are badly needed to help Animam inside? Also the choices will be determine what will Naomi Panganiban's development will be... If she improve her game, especially on her decision making then we all know who is our pick here of NP slot... But I hope that 1 of Onoh or VDJ will be classified as local in the future, so that both will be in our line up... We will be better if we can have them both... Although in 2026 Asian games, since the eligibility rules there are relax compare to FIBA, we will see our probably best womens basketball line up ever.. since the competition will be held in summer and our American based players are available.. we will see both Onoh and VDJ alongside Animam, Bernardino, Panganiban, etc... that might have our best chance to win a medal there at Asian level....

                • The reason why Coach Pat likely tap VDJ again next year because Onoh is injured

University of the Philippines is gearing up to maintain its momentum in the UAAP Season 87 women’s basketball tournament, despite a significant setback in their lineup. The Fighting Maroons will be without standout inside presence Favour Onoh. Te reigning Rookie of the Year has been ruled out for the entire season due to ongoing recovery […]

Hopefully it does... We can appeal to FIBA just what they did to Bahamas, since our women's team is under "developmental stage"... But having a professional league is better, so that they can stay here for long and adding to their residency years that FIBA requires...

                      • Opening weekend of the top collegiate league and we have about less than 10% watching live. There's still 5'8 centers, raw overall play and no regular person will be able to name 10 players. This is why a pro/semipro won't work.

                        Grassroots has to develop first.

Grassroots will be wasted if there is no professional leagues or even a semi pro for womens basketball.. why not emulate men's volleyball.. Just like womens basketball, men's volleyball is not watchable too but they have a semi pro league, having a league is also part of grassroots to continue the development of our local players after college careers.. and there is already development, before there is no glaring interest at all in womens basketball, now it's slowly increasing.. before even tv telecast is not to be found but now the interest is there... They just need a "Allysa Valdez" type of personality who will popularize the sport... Just like also Caitlin Clark of WNBA... Maybe if Tifanny Reyes will decide to play here in college then she might be the one who will likely take interest on womens basketball in another level...

Wasted? Our Filam hooper girls primary goal is to get a college scholarship, I personally know a few of them. Playing pro is just a cherry on top for them. For many girls, playing pro team sports means foregoing motherhood or postponing it really late. Sacrificing that just to play in some unpopular semi-pro league is not the answer.

The men's semi-pro volleyball league proves nothing. It loses money for the team owners. It's not generating fan interest, it will be hard to find a person able to name even one player. As for development, the good players will have to play with mediocre players which is detrimental. It's like when playing in the ABA was like playing against plumbers.

The only ones that may benefit are mediocre players. Our few and rare elite players play in Japan, Korea, Thailand like Espejos. We don't want them coming back and playing semi-pro. As a matter of fact we want them to aim for those other leagues.

Baseball and football made the same mistakes...you can't have pro leagues without a local pipeline of quality players and a sustainable growing fan base.

By the way, did you even watch any of the opening UAAP womens games? Have you even watched any game of that semi-pro volleyball league? You're such an avid supporter and if you haven't even watched, what more normal people.

Yes, I watched women's basketball of UAAP, I saw Kacey Dela Rosa scored 30 pts in their opener, I watched UST and NU dominate their opponents last Sunday.. did you notice One sports now trying to promote womens basketball too and maybe the start of something appreciation for womens basketball, having atleast semi pro league is better than you suggested, not all players are having opportunity to play abroad, in fact, even our best local players such as Afril Bernardino doesn't have a ball club aside from appearance for national team.. her development as a player is slow because she doesn't have more games to improve her game by playing.. Another one is Claire Castro, if we have a league, she might not retired yet and continue playing.. we badly needed height and she is one of them that we needed but she forced to retire quickly because there is nothing to gain more money from playing basketball... And also it affects the decision of young female athletes to choose their path what sport they will choose.. with PVL is in all time popularity today, our female athletes choosing volleyball as their preferred sport than any sport including basketball because it has secured future for their careers.. It affects the likes of Kai's sister and Arwind Santos' daughter decision to change sport because the money is in volleyball.. we have many players right now, from local and abroad, we should not wasted their opportunities.. Gilas program is not for all, having a league is a must to increase the pool of players playing basketball for women, and that is also part of grassroots what you want, Having a youth program, having a collegiate league like UAAP and NCAA and having a league for them after college.. with that, we can encourage female athletes, especially the taller athletes to play basketball, outside volleyball as their preferred choice of career and we can pick more players, especially taller players to our national team...

                              • Prime example is women's volleyball, back in the days, womens volleyball is not that popular here... Yes, it was played by people but not as career choice, but the federation keep pushing and promote the sport, not until 2010s when the sport of volleyball is gaining popularity especially the arrival of Allysa Valdez.. She makes volleyball as female sport in the country and until now it keeps growing and rivaling basketball as the top sport in the country... All basketball federation needs is a guy who can popularize the sport just what Valdez did to volleyball.. I smell women's basketball will be as popular as volleyball in next 5-10 years, since we have already pipeline of players from youth program.. and some of them are charismatic too, since the new generation of fans today are not old school minded as before, back in the days, many telling if a girl playing basketball, sinasabihan na "TIBO/TOMBOY".. that was changed today.. today's society accepted men can play volleyball na di sinasabihan na "BAKLA" or women will play basketball na di sinasabihan na "TOMBOY"... Plus if our national team for women will achieve more positive results, maybe a semis appearance for FIBA Asia cup and qualifying for FIBA World cup for women in 2026.. I'm sure the popularity of womens basketball will skyrocket...
