    Gabriella Ramos (C/F - 6'0)
    Nicole Abong (F - 5'11)
    Margaret Duenas (F - 5'10)
    Afril Bernardino (G/F - 5'7)
    Camille Clarin (G/F - 5'10)
    Jazmin Joson (G/F - 5'7)
    Ella Fajardo (PG - 5'5)
    Laona Ozar (SG - 5'8)
    Naomi Panganiban (PG - 5'8)

In Philippine standards, this is already a tall line up, although still small in international standards but this is way better than having numerous small players that we always been bullied inside the paint...
Who is the replacement for Khate Castillo?

she is undersized but can shoot lights out.

Clarin, Joson and Ozar can hit threes... Joson and Clarin are crucial pieces in last year's run especially when they beat Taiwan and hanging on against Korea and NZL and all of them are 5'8 while Castillo is 5'4...

Atleast a semi pro league is better, atleast some companies will help some expenses thru having a ball club...

Here's what I'm thinking,so they have 1 pocket tourney in Taiwan, what's stopping SBP of having an annual pocket tourney too? So that's 2 in a year, and in between you have the qualifying tourneys,SEA GAMES,Asian qualifiers, etc. An invitational tourney for college teams sounds great, but I really want at least 18 of the best players and,we all know half of those will be coming from players based overseas,so I rather have a full time Team A and B going to tourneys or even big tuneup games in the US,Asia or Europe.Doing this I believe will built their chemistry, cohesion, skills and strength to the Asian and World level.

Our status In womens basketball is not that establish internationally… we don’t have luxury to invite teams who are better than us… what benefit they will get to play with us even in a pocket tourneys? And another thing here, we can’t do another Gilas 1 set up because that is more expensive.. some of those players are committed to their schools, our best players mostly are college guys… if mens volleyball can establish a semi pro league even we all know mens volleyball is not that watched by casuals, why not womens basketball? We are hoops country… atleast a semi professional league can do to start a real progress about womens basketball program… and remember also, our players need professional jobs after they graduate.. not all players are in Animam’s talent.. if we have atleast a semi pro league, maybe Afril Bernardino is way better than she is now, or Castillo is used to hit threes even against taller players because she was used already if we have a league here, or Claire Castro before still continuing playing and still serviceable to the national team.. this is why Korea, China, Japan and Australia are way ahead in womens basketball because they have a league to make progress of their players, especially their national players…

          • Korea make it to the finals of pre qualifiers in Mexico after defeating Montenegro… they will play Czechia in the finals and I hope Korea wins.. because if Korea wins, they will automatically qualified for the main qualifiers for 2026 fiba womens World Cup in March 2026, that means from 6, it will be 7 (including Korea) slots from Asia/Pacific will qualify.. we will have more better chances to qualify to the main qualifiers.. Just to be 7th place (probably just be only one between Lebanon or Indonesia) and we are qualified already for main World Cup qualifiers…

The best locally and overseas based players will soon be beyond college soon.I know some are committed to their schools, that's why I prospose to have a Team A and B.It won't be as expensive,to have a regular ready team, the pocket tourney that they can start in the Philippines will be succesful if they have other established college or pro teams from overseas, the idea is to get our locals to the feel of international games, speed, size and skills beyond from playing other locals.I just can't see powers and money people starting a league that would cost multi million pesos, with very little return.

Your proposal is like the Gilas 1 of coach Toroman back then.. and you know what happened after that... That's expensive, MVP cost more than multi million to have that set up and return nothing... Having atleast a semi pro league is better.. sure, it will cost millions too, but it will not shoulder by just one company only.. progress will not done if we will not investing some money.. yes, it is not easy to poure money since women's basketball is not popular but this is the best long term purposes and solution.. having a league will give jobs to our players after college, they will improve their skills everyday by playing numerous games in established leagues, then we will have already pool of players to choose on that league for our national team and it will also encourage for some young athletes to choose basketball too as their careers.. because here in the Philippines, especially for women, volleyball is the first choice of female athletes.. example is Erin Sotto (Kai's sister), her first sport is basketball, but because there is no opportunity outside college as career then she switch to volleyball, same is also for Arwind Santos' daughter.. things will be repeated in the future if stakeholders will not do something in women's basketball.. the pool of players will be limited because of little opportunity as professional job on playing basketball...and with PVL is on the rise and primary league for womens sports.. the future of womens basketball is unsure since young athletes will likely choose volleyball as their first choice.. not basketball...

                • I think there's a big potential in womens basketball moving forward

it's all about good marketing and proper presentation about "Women Empowerment" mantra

I remember vividly during the early days when womens volleyball are not yet on it's peak zone

they used that slogan to the max everytime those volleyball stakeholders are conducting their usual marketing propaganda during those days

and now, the rest is history.

with the recent historical decision by the Supreme Court on Philippine Sports that was deprived financially since 1993

surely, it will have a domino effect on all sports discipline in the country

with good marketing propaganda by our basketball stakeholders spearheaded by the new ED whose a national player during her heyday

I think convincing or luring those private entities to form a basketball team with minimum investment as an initial thing

                  would not be that impactful

there's a lot of local and overseas players out there whose already in the final years of their respective college eligibility

and I think it's just a perfect opportunity to them if they want to continue playing the discipline internationally

they could use the Philippine domestic league as a springboard to other professional league here in Asia

like Japan, Taiwan, China, Korea and even Australia whom we all know had a long running professional basketball league for women

the PVL stakeeholders had the same policy on their respective womens volleybelles by encouraging them to play outside

best example is Jaja Santiago, anyway that's another story

I said it before starts small, nurtured it and surely the rest will be history.

True.. and it will encourage for young female athletes to try basketball because it will have a career after their college days.. who knows, it will be the bridge of finding future stars someday.. especially the taller ones..

I believe top 4 in each of those tournaments will qualify for the 2026 World Cup proper in Germany. We should be much competitive by then.

And that qualifying tournament could possibly be hosted by Cebu City which by then will have the spanking new SM Seaside Arena. Who knows in the drawing of teams we may get the US in our group with possibly Caitlin Clark as part of their team by then. That would surely be a crowd-drawing scenario.
Lebanon has only three good players, namely Trinity Baptiste (their naturalized player), team captain Aida Bakhos and veteran guard Rebecca Akl... We have better talent than them.. Coach Pat should have a gameplan how to stop those three... Because if one of them will be at off night, they are already in trouble.. their bench are not that good and they are slower due to age factor... While Indonesia will be only lead by their naturalized player Kim Pierre-Louis.. their talent is not that good and likely their division A stint will be short lived, we just lose to them last seagames because they parade three naturalized players.. since seagames is not FIBA sanctioned event, they can parade multiple imports just to beat us... I'm confident we will make it to the top 6 to qualify for the main qualifiers of 2026 world cup in March 2026.. I just hope the papers of Favour Onoh will make it before July 2025, so that Animam will finally have her partner in shaded lane...

                        Sir Giannis,

the bottomline here is that Philippine Sports landscape had exponential amount of Billions

coming from Pagcor, PCSO and the Office of the Pres.(no thanks to those yellow submarine gov't. during the late 80's and 90's who released that EO and decided to released only that 2% minus gross deduction not the 5% as per PSC law, @#$%^ I'm biting my tongue)

previously we Sports loving Filipinos are very negative and timid to the point of holding back because we lack money

now we are bold enough to say that it is now possible to be a superpower in all sports discipline and establish some sports event.

as I said let's start from small to avoid being overwhelm and let it grow the natural way.

I think with the good governance from PSC and POC with SBP as one of it's high-profile NSA

they could somehow entice some private entity with the slogan of "Women Empowerment".

our dreams and aspiration for Philippine Sports is slowly becoming a reality.

but all of us must stay vigilant because genius people working in the government with evil deeds are lurking around.

Where is she now? Why she not included in recent tournament? Alongside Clarin... Both are 5'8 and taller than Castillo..

Last time I heard she was meant to play in the NBL.
