COLUMN: Tab Baldwin not sweating over uncertainty at Ateneo job

Now, why is Tab Baldwin in Chicago, is there a good Filam prospect there?
Wouldn’t be surprised if Ateneo’s behind the PR, Homer’s been involved with Ateneo PR for some time now, with his obvious slant.

Ateneo might be trying to divide the UST camp to force Tounkara out of Espana and into Katipunan.

Heard UST’s also on the move already for another FSA…

Probably Akowe? Any news with regards to his recruitment? Is he a lock with NU?

Not a lock but leaning. Everyone from Diliman to Taft and in between is interested with the guy.

but the person of interest for UST, from the grapevine, is actually someone else. Momowei.

Something that’s apparent with Andy is he’s not used to scoring on bigger with legit size and athleticism. He doesn’t have a counter for taller guys protecting the rim and that hurts him, in the NCAA jrs he could get away with it since there weren’t any real bigs and rim protectors but it’s harder internationally
That year he outperformed graduating Pablo and Gagate for the chip was a good experience. He was around 15 or early 16 at the time and the Greenies had size. Even for kids in the US, that type of high stakes game against that size at that young age is not common.

Even him playing against grown men since his early teens in barangay ligas also offer value. That's where he learned about gulang and in terms of toughening up, I don't think he'll be easily punked anymore because of those runs. I'm pretty sure he's already seen everything wild that can happen in a game.

He's not a D1 blue-chipper...he's no Cooper Flagg (or everyone at that level) that grew up playing against nimble 7-footers. There are more than 350 D1 teams, he's good enough for the bottom third of those teams. Then a few years in, he may become good enough to transfer to higher tier teams.

Any diligent scout will watch a prospect as much as possible. Of course they watched him in Bleague because that's where he plays the most.

But, the main reason their interest started is his performance with the national team. Scouts/coaches are all about levels. They have to see you do well against nba-level guys (which he did with team Japan in the World Cup). D1 is a different category.

This criteria (play well against nba-level before any consideration) is more pronounced with Yuki because of his size. He has to prove that his size is not a detriment. It's unlike a teenage Giannis where it doesn't matter if he's playing in some obscure league, you could see his physical tools alone have great potential.

Hmmmm interesting. Also we should note that Jack Santiago's role is in limbo as per Homer Sayson so that might lead to an exodus of players including Momowei. But Momowei will probably be a one and done since he is affected by that 2 year removal of eligibility rule.

Theres another fsa in team b right? How's he doing so far? Havent seen their games recently but he looks as big as tounkara(might be even lil bit bigger). Its osang the one im missing.

Anyways is racine kane still with the juniors team as well? He seems solid too, his matchup with akowe should be one to watch.

None of these FSA’s are worth the hassle for a one and done season as a stopgap. Momowei isn’t worth it as you can find a player you can mold for more years. He’s not that good

There's video of Osang playing with UST B this December.

                      From Twitter

                      Homer Sayson

BREAKING: Phenom Sports just told me that Precious Momowei, John Abate, Nico Mulingtapang and the rest of their boys will depart if the UE Red Warriors won't pick "the right coach to run the program."

Five candidates are currently in the running for UE head coach.

Well as ive pointed out in the ncaa thread, this not the first time phenom did it, besides the red cubs, they also did it with arellano.

Anyways not a smart move for momowei imo. He'll only have 1 playing year left and has to sit out one. Much better for him to stay on especially since he's already a featured player with ue. If you're an fsa, it would be much better for you to max out your playing years.

Abate i think has also 1 playing year left, and may not be able to move to either uaap(will automatically exhaust his eligibility once he transfers) or ncaa (since transfer rules require him to sit out a year, which would be season 101, earliest he can play would be season 102, however theres a new ncaa rule that lower the max age limit to 24 effective that season. Abate is year 2000 born i believe.). His best bet is to turn pro like what they told arellano's cade flores to do.

                            Mulingtapang could be ncaa bound.
