He is lucky that he inherited a talented team.

His other problem is his recruitment style. Gusto nya sya nilalapitan ng potential recruits. There’s a long list of recruits that wanted to play for the Red Lions and some referred by boosters and alumnus to. But were all given the cold treatment.
I wouldn’t call it "luck" when a coach takes over a talented team and turns them into a dynasty. Talent is one thing, but sustaining dominance and instilling a championship mindset? That’s on the coach. You don’t win NCAA titles by just giving pep talks.

Coach Frankie might not be your typical Xs-and-Os clipboard genius, but he knew how to maximize the strengths of his players. His system wasn’t flashy, but it was disciplined, efficient, and effective. You could actually see the identity and grit in his teams hard-nosed defense, quick transition, and clutch composure.

What I would call luck is us winning the championship in season 99.

Honestly, I just wanted to see more from the team.

Frankie was lucky because most of the players he inherited where recruited by the hardworking boosters before his time (2007-2011).

I can only think of San Beda Alabang products Ryusei Koga and Melo Lim, and DLSU Team B Mychole Sorela as Frankie’s personal recruits.

I did not count the recruitment class of 2009 (Rome, Kyle Pascual, JP Mendoza, Mar Villahermosa and the Semerad twins). Rome was referred and recruited by the boosters. Kyle was secured by an alumnus (he even prevented him from going “green”). JP Mendoza and Villahermosa was passed to us after former Red Cub Dindo Pumaren was not renewed at UE. And the Semerad twins were a walk-on after visiting Letran and ADMU.

Will prolly use the same pool when filoil comes around.
No Zenric Jarque. Coaching staff would have its hands full in trimming the 25 man list to 15 plus 3 reserves, not to mention some possible additions pa.
        Jarque leaving or injured again?

Not sure lol but he's 23 already so might be too late for him to transfer out. Fortunately for benilde, they're deep in the position with ondoa, celis, moore to name a few.

              • Finally, a game where the RL's are attacking the basket. What a refreshing sight to see.

Benilde was unusually off today. Especially in the 1st half. No plays, lots of to's and uninspired defense. Even the rotations were iffy. That was prolly the worst game benilde play this offseason. Can't do that especially against reigning uaap chanps even if its only half their team playing. By the time they got their shiz together in the second half it was already too late since the lead was already up to 30, the lowest that they could come back from is 17 or 16 if im not mistaken and that was before liwag hurt his ankle. Once he left the game lead was well back to 30.

On the bright side allen liwag showed why he was the best local big man in the ncaa, arguably 2nd only to motor mike in the local collegiate scene. after easily outplaying both gani stevens and sean alter.

It will be interesting to see him go up against equally-experienced guys like a Manzano or see him defend versatile bigs like Ladi and Pre.

Last year's offseason i believe they face adamson twice or thrice with adamson winning all games. I remembered both going at it in every game but liwag had the edge statwise since he is the go to option.

In the same offseason against feu, liwag dominated pre in a pinoyliga game while in a rematch in filoil, pre played better. That was the infamous game last year where jorick sank the game winning buzzer beater eliminating benilde in the crossover playoffs leading letran as the last ncaa team standing.

Ladi only faced benilde's B team so far and they beat him and glory B twice if im not mistaken in sulit this year.

All in all i dont think liwag will have any trouble defending mobile bigs like pre or ladi since he has the foot speed to stay infront of them nor traditional bigs like manzano who uses their elite footwork. Against motor mike in their scrimmages and games this year. Liwag was able to hold his own. Whatever advantage motor mike has athletically can be counteracted by liwag's overall refinement in terms of skills especially on the offensive end. Heck liwag is even starting to jack up and make threes recently. If he legit adds that to his game, wont be suprise if he becomes a top 3 pick in the next pba draft.

If they declare for the pba draft, probably liwag will be drafter higher than escamis due to his ceiling, on the other hand, there are plenty of guards to choose from.
