IMHO, Puno should've been SBU's main guy this season, not Sajonia, Payosing or Yuks. If you watched how Sajonia played in the preseason, you'd know he ain't it.

Aside from Janti and Jimmy, I'm looking forward to seeing JE Lopez, Etulle, Ronrei, Hawkins and hopefully Vailoces to play for the Red Lions.

Jomel doesn’t have yet the dog in him to be the go-to-guy. He is still hesitant, gun shy (when he’s wide open) and lacks the aggressiveness to attack the basket. In tagalog mahiyain and ayaw pa magbuwaya.

If Vailoces makes Team A (which is most likely the offer of Yuri than a Team B spot), he’ll play the SF post behind Payosing, Puno, Richi or Culdora.

In my book Hawkins doesn’t make it. He’s a 6’3 who plays mostly 5. Doesn’t have a mid-range jumper and can’t play in the perimeter. Compare Hawkins to other 6’3-4”s in the team like Bonzi, Culdora and Ronrei where all three can play the perimeter and hit from the outside shot. His best shot to make the team is in the reserves (16th to 18th man).

Add to that the perimeter scoring of reyes and the slashing capability of miller and beda has themselves balanced offense that can adapt to any defense they face. Imo beda badly missed a go to guy last season and that should be addressed with the filams.
Me I'm not sold on Lina. I think he slows everybody down.

Puno is like a Dwight Ramos type of player. Not a go-to guy, content with being a Robin.

I hope you can develop Nygel. He has it.

That's what I think about Jomel too. But if the team decides to make him the go-to guy, he has no choice but to perform, right?

In my opinion, Sollano, Richi, and Jalbuena should be demoted to Team B, which would open a spot for Hawkins. What I like about Hawkins is his hustle in rebounding and his ability to finish after contact. Something Celzo and Songcuya struggle with.

Yeah i'd still be happy even if hawkins is only in the reserves, at least we can utilize every player in our team that way. Unlike in season 100 na walang mahugot. There should be no more free loaders in the team.

Sometimes they are getting outworked and outrebounded by smaller teams. (MU, SSC-R). They don’t know who’s their main guy. Sometimes its Sajonia, Estacio or Andrada. Even Payosing had his moments and Puno. Maybe their depth got into them and the only consistent guy finishing games is Andrada. SBU needs to address their respective roles into the team in order for them to get back to their track. In S99 they know that Jacob is the guy and Yukien is the other. Puno and Payosing are mostly energizers and Nygel is their stabilizer. I expect Sajonia to fill in the role of Jacob but sometimes, he doesn’t finish games due to his bad decisions. Adding Jimmy Reyes and Janti Miller could address this problem by giving Jimmy the keys and getting Sajonia as the Robin. Also, I think RC Calimag, who’s arguably the best spot up shooter in the team aside from Yukien, didn’t have enough touches to make his presence felt. I thought he was going to be a Garvo Lanete archetype or a Clint Doliguez. Well, one thing is for sure. Don’t count San Beda out.
Coaching was the real problem. hehehehe

Speaking of coaching, who do you think should be in the coaching hot seat coming to season 101?

Personally i think coach arvin of ssc, coach chico of arellano and of course coach olsen of perps and coach jerson of eac should all be safe.

Cant say the same for coach louie who's prolly the longest tenured ncaa coach now alongside coach randy. 5--6 years? Still no final 4 appearance, 35-60 record and only one winning season. And of course the uncertain direction jru is heading (prolly the fewest recruits for next season as of the moment). Maybe its time for someone else to take charge, give coach glen capacio a chance or nixson ramos who has experience in mpbl.

As for coach allen, last i heard still 50/50 for next season

Coach gilbert should be back next year tho he may take a step back in the early months of the offseason due to the elections. Coach yuri maybe could be staying for atleast year tho i wont be surprised if someone else is given the reins and he stays on as a deputy.

Coach charles said that he wants to stay but its still up to sga. Tho my gut feel says he'll be season 101 coach. Especially if liwag and the core is til intact next year.

As for coach randy, how is his health long term? If he does decided to retire, who's the best option to take over, is it comg yong?

UST just made a move to pry away Jomel Puno from Mendiola.
UST offer made known to MVP.

if jonnel policarpio, as a 1 and done UAAP player, deservedly got drafted in the first round of a strong pba draft class, i am positive that jomel would be a surefire first rounder too.

sajonia was disappointing but i think the calimags were bigger disappointments.

Just that you want to.invest in the calimag's growth but theres sajonia..no definite go to guy for beda this season but they can be a potent shooting team, a blue collar team.like mapua and if lina was healty a capable inside team
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                        1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

i doubt it. there were reports Puno's family just want him to play at least 3 years in collegiate basketball then and turn pro. it will be counter productive if he transfers to another league and sit down for 1 year. plus, i dont see his personality will mesh well with some UST players. he is a shy type of guy and very low key.

Pido will eat his confidence alive, so yeah dont think itll be a fit too. In fact if he leaves beda altogether, hope its for the pros already. Tho i think he needs atleast another season to home his skills more.

Sajonia played decent in the first round where he was the team’s leading scorer for the first five games. He is still SBU’s best perimeter defender.

What many didn’t noticed was the high expectations coaches had for Nygel. He was last year’s second PG after Alfaro. He was supposed to be the default starting PG this season. But he struggled. Like Jomel, Nygel is also hesitant and his decision making was suspect. As we can see Yuri had to put in different PGs in the starting five to compensate Nygel’s inconsistencies.

Sajonia is the best perimeter defender on the squad and will be needed to take on the best guards of the opposing teams..

Sajonia was reduced to a jump shooter in yuri's system.. He is a good one-on-one player and finisher.. They just need to set plays that would maximize his skillset..

Same with Nygel, he is the go to guy in the Red Robins that thrives on attacking the perimeter and drives hard to the basket, but has been reduced to a jump shooter (if mabigyan)

That system of passing and weaving, only to get No distinct advanatge with 5-7eecs of offense remaining would really make players indecisive and have them take forced shots..

it was easy to read how to play San Beda.. put pesky guards full court and apply early pressure.. by the time they reach their backcourt, only 16secs less to do run the system.. same pesky (madiin maglaro) guards chasing and manning the perimeter and wings to deny the favored 3pt shot..

there were i think 2 instances when opposing coaches were interviewed and they mentioned that San Beda would still stick to the ststem.. They can only delay the system in such a way that they take hurried shots at the end..
