  • I think that Pinoys are smart enough to distinguish the difference between a team of young prospects and a team of star veterans.

If we send a team of young prospects (with the intent of long-term development), even if they lose, the majority of the public will understand. Sure there will still be bashing, but those will just be the minority or from plain trolls.

Another option is to make the SEA Games serve as a "tryout" for potential Gilas players like QMB, Phillips, Balti, Navarro, Lucero, Abando, Heading, Abbarientos, Panopio reinforced by Ange as NP. Amos can be added.

        Good Day Sir Al,

        exactly.

then instead of CTC barking instruction either one of his deputies should do the coaching and let him be an active consultant instead.

should add Barefield, Datu as well.

having Carl Tamayo and KQ if there is no conflict with their club teams as Team Captains would be a good training ground

to teach those newbies the intricacies of the system as part of the so-called "smooth transition".

Yeah. The team is strong enough to keep the gold and at the same time they get to familiarize CTC's system. I would love to include Barefield but I think he has a long shot of getting an exemption.

SEA Games does not usually adapt FIBA eligibility rules. As long Barefield have Philippine passport he is allowed to play… yes in 2025 SEA Games it’s possible for Gilas to be formed by all Fil- foreigner crew as long as the host Thailand organising committee don’t follow FIBA rules.

The Thais potentially could field and play its NPs who had some heritage links like Tyler Lamb, Martin Breunig and Tra Holder. All three remain classified as NP by FIBA. So Gilas may resort doing the same by calling-in all Fil-foreign crew like QMB, Macaspac, Barefield, Holt, Lucero, Tuffin, Winston, Ballungay, Lemetti, Stockton, B.Phillips, Koon etc. etc. etc.

              Good Day Sir Al,

at age 28 yrs. old...let's see

assuming he may be granted that exemption for the 2031 cycle..he will be 35 yrs. old by then

but on the other hand how many SEAG and Asian Games he could possibly join.

              SEAG 2025, 2027, 2029, 2031

as for the Asian Games it's 2026, 2030.

I think that's already good and productive assuming he wants to don the 3 Stars and a Sun moving forward.

possibly winning 6 medals of any colors from those tournaments would be considered as memorable and productive

as far as a Filipino basketball player are concern.

Sir Dave mentioned 5 years continuous living in the country is good enough.

some say including me 7 to 8 yrs.

others says 10 yrs. if the reference is Chris Newsome and Greg Slaughter who obtained there respective docs before turning 23 yrs. old

              • As much as I want a rematch between Hermoso and Breunig in next year’s SEA Games but CStan has already retired… both has German fathers and both played for under-18 NT for Germany… nakaisa si CStan noong 2023 and I would like him to reaffirmed and stamped his superiority and dominance over Breunig.

                • Hermoso is a 3-time SEA Games gold medallist and he could achieved an unprecedented 4th if he change his mind…

We were actually talking about fielding a team that is composed of Gilas prospects to get familiarize with Cone's system like QMB, Balti, Navarro, Phillips, Lucero, Heading, Abando, Stockton and Abbarientos. You can add Tamayo, KQ and Mason for reinforcement. Bayla is a good size 2 for development. Unlike Phillips, Barefield has a long shot of getting an exemption so I won't consider him a Gilas prospect.

                    • yup I do agree that 28 yr. old Sedric Barefield may be a long shot for getting an exemption.

compared to the likes of Michael Philips, Lucero, Stockton, Ballungay among others

but we cannot deny the pedigree of the dude compared to our guards in the A-team like Scotty, Newsome and CJ

realistically the possible next in line like RJ, Panopio, SJ, JGDL among others are not yet on that level as per our expectation.

our PG guy should be competitive enough to match-up with the likes of Wael, the 2 Yukis, Guo, Lish, Lamb

as for SK, thank goodness, they haven't producing(yet) an elite PG in the same breath as Kang Dong Hee, Lee Sang Min. Kim Seung-hyun

same thing on IRI with the likes "kulit" Davoudi and Javad Davari thank goodness those 2 Persians already retired to the game

those I've mentioned are the torn at the backcourt as far as Philippine campaign are concern be it in a FIBA sanctioned event and non-sanctioned

but were talking about SEAG and possibly AG here, all non-sanctioned

Sedric and possibly Stephen Holt could be tap for this specific tourney while they could do some mentoring to the likes of RJ among others

whom for now is a defensive liability.

and we cannot afford that because our bigs esp. Kai and AJ depends mostly on the PG to make them more effective

and we cannot afford our PG to be schooled and overwhelmed by their counterpart on that position.

as for FIBA sanctioned event specifically if the narrative is all about FIBA Asia-Oceania well it is reserve to the other threads.

the likes of TB's Shea Lli, Flynn Cameron, Webster bros and possibly Mat Dellavedova and Bryan Cotton of AUS Team C

for the coming 2025 FIBA-Asia Cup is in my mind.

COuldve been a Asiad Gold and a PBA MVP, if only learned to say yes to Al and Tim (and he paid it dearly he didnt get the payday that he wanted)
Thats wouldve been more unprecedented (the 3rd asean gold btw was so underrated, some say that camboadian team is tougher to beat that rhj led Jordan) especially with linoleum court
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                        1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

Well fine only consider players who has are likely to be selected in a FIBA sanctioned tourney. So all those players you mentioned has chances to be exempted by FIBA or already eligible. I get it. No more Barefield and Holt in future SEA or Asiad bound Gilas squads. We can mold this team as Select Team in the same manner as USA Basketball has their own Select Team. It is like a sparring partner for Gilas but with long-term goal of being a pipeline to develop NT prospects.

this is the kind of sports news article that brings joy to the heart of every ordinary sports loving pinoy joe out there like me

I do hope that this is now the initial effect of that historical SC decision on the reimbursement of billions for Philippine Sports.

certainly, our athletes will be inspired to perform better in the international stage if they had a decent structures to hone their craft.

Starting today, the Philippine Sports Commission will work hand in hand with the Department of Public Works and Highways concerning the PSC’s infrastructure projects.

our young RP Floorball team composed of players playing in the Division 1 of Swedish Superliga considered as the top domestic floorball league worldwide

has just write it's own history in the annals of Asian Floorball and it's just a beginning.

by placing 11th in the recently concluded 2024 World Floorball Championship in Sweden(considered as the hometown of our hafus) who almost Estonia who are considered one of the

contenders by a skin of their teeth. 6-5.

defeating other higher ranked team like Canada considered as the powerhouse in the sports of hockey 4-3 in the group stage

by defeating Australia 6-2 in the group stage and Poland 9-8 in OT for the battle for 11th place surely brings joy because this is the first time an Asian team defeated a European team

with that, Team Philippines will surely crack the top 10 ranking for the next IFF Power Rankings.

also, the RP team are also qualified for next year's World Games to be held in Chengdu, China

hopefully we could win the Gold Medal for next year's SEAG and challenge the defending champ Thailand in their home turf.

on their sleeves to boast our frontline and other pieces to somehow fill the big shoes vacated temporarily by Kai.

Gilas is still solid because of CTC and his system and adding a few upgrade are already mentioned without compromising too much

the HC's stand that he only wants "a lean pool" moving forward.

we do hope AJ, Jaime, DR, Carl, Scooty 2 Hooty and JB are in good working condition come the actual dance.

otherwise forget that possible medal round games against the likes of AUS, NZL, JAP, CHI, LEB. SK and JOR

those teams are the thorns of our campaign for this edition.

I'm not discounting other teams as well esp. those in the ME group they are a big headache as well

esp. with the news about some was given an exemption to strengthen and beef up their program.

now if SBP doesn't play their cards right in 5 or 6 months time

"bawi na lang talaga on the SEAG and 2026 AG instead

With SEAG, SBP should just send a PBA Select team to be consists of sophomores and rookies plus Ange Kouame.

With 2026 AG hopefully with a new NP, the core of Gilas and at least 4 other ineligible players who has good chance to secure exemption comes 2027 FIBA World Cup…
I think we should go with a U25 team this SEA Games, as much as possible. Question, though, is how many PBA players are 25 and under by December 2025? Another is, how many U25 players will be available by then?
