  • Players that can be FIBA Eligible in the Future

I am thinking of guys like Michael Philips, Kai Ballungay, and probably Stephen Holt. I want to talk about how can these guys be FIBA-eligible in the future. I am also excited about the upcoming UAAP talents like Quentin Millora-Brown (UP) and 6'8" Kymani Ladi (Ateneo). Forgive me about the youtube video that I posted, it is the only youtube video I could find about Kymani Ladi. I hope he'll end up as good or even better than Kemaka Hepa in the future.

I got a feeling Sage Tolentino will come crawling back to the Philippines since his basketball career in the US has gone no where. And he is still on the young side (21 years old) so there is a possibility for a FIBA exemption in the future.

My bet is Collins Akowe, especially if he makes some noise in the seniors division.

Remy Martin and Kihei Clark also. Tho Clark will be playing the BLeague as a World Import, i dont think he'll be as effective as the Yukis. We'll see.

I would welcome Remy with open arms. He has always been proud of his Pinoy heritage and even put up a non-profit organization to help Pinoy youth without much fanfare.

this could be interesting but if there would be a naturalized player who would be considered local in the near future, it would be Kouame. But we all know that the PBA is not letting him play as a local and that would br one of the requirements for FIBA for them to consider the change of status, case and point Abassi of Taiwan.

                Sedrick Barefield
                Mike Philipps
                S. Holt (esp now he's with Ginebra & learning Tim's system)
                Zave Lucero
                Christian David
                Kai Ballungay
                Ange Kouame
                QMB

But lets say we're only granted 3, id pick Barefield because he's much younger than Holt, QMB & Ange obviously due to world level size (both 6'10) plus we could always find a good size wing import anyways and Boatwright can be a 3-4

the possible players should be young like what QMB is trying to do, newsome did.

take a college route and pro in PBA..

If the likes of holt and barefield were suggested, that’s malabo because of their age and the amount of years is short to consider them as local by fiba (see CS and Pringle)

Give Sage Tolentino a condo in Eastwood already! haha Sotto, Edu, Kouame, QMB, and Tolentino together would mean that we would have world-class frontline for at least 15 years.

Sage is not that world-class TBH. He barely gets minutes in a not-so high caliber program of Cincinnati. Then he transfers in another unknown D1 Program again. He is basically a D1 3rd stringer at best.

To compare it, we had Kobe Paras who was 3rd stringer in a Creighton Program which is a big program in College but still fell out of the Gilas program.

Also I doubt if Sage is interested knowing how he rejected CTB offer for him to play for Philippines. Well, maybe now he is considering thinking of playing now that he has nowhere to go after his failed stint in USNCAA.

Now, Sage will listen because money talks and it is obvious that he won't make the NBA. Maybe Ateneo can get him for next season so the Blue Eagles would be able to match UP and DLSU in terms of manpower.

He's not world class for now, but a mobile 7 footer will always be a force in Asia esp w/ proper coaching. I see him as a poor man's Kelly Olynyk. Kouame looked like Joel Embiid with Tab in 2021 but was unrecognizable under Chot

I feel among the players mentioned, Mike Philipps has the best chance of being granted an exception. I think the guy has been studying in the Philippines as early as when he was 18 years old & continues to study & play college basketball in our local collegiate league. Plus he has also once suited up for the national team in an international tournament - 2023 SEA Games. I just hope that he gets that exception 3 to 4 years from now.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV
