Curiously, Jeremy and Joseph Lin's parents are both 5'6. However, their relatives in the maternal side are said to be tall.
I certainly don’t think athletes are born in a sense that everyone who has a high arc foot type is supposed to be more athletic. Part of it is nutrition, training, maybe even community background and economics. Don’t look too far, just compare our Olympic team to our SEA neighbors. Why don’t we have World Class swimmers, sport shooters, and badminton players? Why don’t they have World Class gymnasts and pole vaulters? You could argue World Class boxers and weightlifters will never come from suburbs just like World Class sailors and equestrians will never come from slums.
Medal counts aren’t quite representative of athletic ability, it’s just that certain sports offer more medals like swimming, gymnastics, and track which puts countries that tick all the boxes except genetics (this is where minorities and immigrants come in just like how we have a thing for Fil-Foreigners). There was an idiot back in the Pinoy Exchange days who insisted that the medal count should be done by athlete (football should count for 22, basketball should count 12, etc) instead of by discipline… and the squatters actually agreed with him.

There were stories of Yao Ming’s parents’ marriage being arranged so that their child (bearing in mind that China had a one child policy from 1979 - 2015) will defenitely have the genetics to be an athlete… but ended up as a 7’6 NBA Hall of Famer.

Well, one thing I learned about the Olympics is how people have the tendency to be so fixated on winning medals than having fun while watching the game. We are so hungry for glory (winning medals) that we are forgetting the true essence of Olympism.Attack
