Why Spain did not just spend their timeout after SGA's 2nd FT so they can inbound the ball on their own court? Kinda weird decision to have a hail merry shot.

Because SGA might deliberately miss the 2nd free throw.. so they use it already...

Zach Edey after 3 years of development in the NBA will address this issue at the 5 position. they will give Team USA some huge problems especially if they can't regularly send Avengers-type lineups while the Canadian NBA players stay committed every tournament.

they gambled on icing SGA by substituting players and calling a timeout before SGA freethrows. bad decision by Scariolo.

That sucks, as in.

If SGA missed that free throw they will need to fight for the rebound that will definitely takes time on the clock. You just want Shai to make that free throw for sure. Icing him should be the last thing you want. Hell, It would even be understandable if SGA intentionally missed it so the clock runs down.

And within the 4 years span, they got some 5-star players coming to the USNCAA or overseas. I feel like if there is a team who can matchup USA lineup with just NBA names, it is them.

I'm sure if Spain didn't called time out, Coach Fernandez will tell SGA to deliberately miss the 2nd one... That's how coaching tactics very important in those crucial situation... Nothing wrong with coach Scarliolo time out.. he knew it already... Remember Taiwan and Ateneo 2018 Jones cup? Ray Chen didn't command their coach to missed his 2nd free throw.. resulting to Ateneo can use the time out and set a play and resulting for the win for Ateneo... That's how good coaching result to great results ...

FIBA showing us it's the Nuggets effect.

Murray not as effective now because he doesn't have Jokic type player in ball screen situations or inverted ball screen situations.

The same is happening with Jokic in Serbia right now. He looks good but doesn't look great. He doesn't have the help of big guys MPJ and Aaron Gordon both on offense and defense.

Just goes to show how more important it is for pieces to fit than expecting a superstar carry your team.

I won't be surprised if Westbrook revives his career with the Nuggets by how well he fits with their style of play.

And unlike Americans.. Canadians have solid national team program.. they don't copy USA style of system in national team set up... Maybe in americup next year guys like SGA, Brooks, etc... will not play, I don't see them commit for 3 straight summers.. they might use rookies or sophomores from NBA plus some overseas players to familiarize Coach Fernandez system... Don't be surprised if Canada will be better than USA once KD and Bron retire after this Olympics.... Next in line american stars like Edwards and Tatum are not ready to take responsibility to replace KD and Bron as "captain America"....

uhm nope... SGA will not deliberately miss a 2nd free throw risking a three point basket from Spain and a loss in regulation.

It's not a tactic just a very bad gamble from Scariolo seeing SGA struggle from the line all game.

If they took the timeout after an SGA made free throw they inbound from sideline and have an opportunity to tie the game.

Just a bad coaching decision. It happens to great coaches sometimes.

if you're Jordi Fernandez it's logical to let SGA lead the first five then just sub in Murray when he gets tired. Murray is relegated to ball-watching Nembhard Barrett and SGA.

just let Murray lead the second unit that way there's not much decrease of quality on the floor when SGA and co are resting.
