Still good showing by Japan. Even though I still doubt the capability of their chosen offense they play so hard to keep games close and almost won against France. As I said before, they are like Korea will rely on their outside shoots and their NP. Having a Riu is such a big advantage for them.

Can they sustain this if Rui doesn't play for them? Can other locals be reliable despite their physical disadvantages?

My only conclusion in this game Japan and Gilas got punked by Huertas, Huertas was the one who made it impossible for us to comeback, while Huertas was the one who made Brazil pull away, Japan might won with Rui and we could too with Kai as both are vital to whatever scheme both teams are doing, Japan is offensively better than us but less efficient, and can defend in spurts, but i see Gilas being the better defensive team but we have tendecy to get burned by threes as ctc always plays with percentage, Japan made it close when they played zone and Hawkinson getting hot from the three, if CTC wants to preserve Junemar who should let him be a pick and pop threat as the guy has the stroke even in midrange, anyways they might be better but like what i am always trying to point out we are not that far behind as far as the current gilas is concern

I dont consider physical disadvanatge if they are in tip top condition.. they will feast agains slow asian teams..

I don't know why people keep pointing to Japan's outside shooting. What else should a small unathletic team do if not shoot from the outside? Pound the ball inside? LOL.

They almost beat France and held on against Brazil even if they lived and die from the 3. Why will they try something unfit for their physique?

No matter how good our small PGs were, it was easier to appreciate taller PGs in Asia like a Sam Dahglas or Arakji because we thought that our height in the backcourt will be abused in defense. Now with Kawamura's emergence, we suddenly forgot why we wanted tall PGs in the first place. Parang okay lng maliit basta foreigner. Pero if Pinoy, pag below 6 ft ka, you have no business to be with the national team.

Alapag is the best Gilas player from 2007 to 2013 and 2nd best after Blatche in 2014... Like Kawamura, he do his thing as celebral PG in his era... But one thing Alapag is better than Kawamura.. the decision making, basketball IQ and make his team better... Kawamura sometimes ball hogging while Alapag is not...

We need everonone contribution in 2013 to get into WC. Even Tenerio was our top local player in game vs Puerto Rico. Alapag was only our top scorer in Argentina game. So its not easy to say Alapag was our best player in that span of time. Every game we had a different top player.

You can never gauge a player's skill and greatness with being in the NBA. Especially now that politics and nepotism are on the table. Was Yuta Tabuse a much better player because he was in the NBA than a Jason Castro?

That's why I tell the guy that being a NBA player is not a sure thing... Here, we even prioritize Brownlee over much talented Clarkson because the former knows the system here...

Our real weakness is the talent differential. We will always be the underdogs vs the Olympic level teams.

Ironically, this game is the game that I consider to be Japan's best. Brazil had an excellent shooting day but Japan kept the game close until the final five minutes of the game. Hachimura could have been a big help for sure. Nice game from Hawkinson and Kawamura.

Brazil committed unnecessary fouls and unforced turnovers. Yago made Brazil looked bad whenever he is on the floor. Tatang Huertas is the floor general I want to have for Gilas - a great stabilizer. Caboclo was a workhorse in this game.

Finally, one thing I noticed from all the opponents Japan had defeated or made the game close is that they tend to panic, especially whenever Japan is making threes. Among teams Japan had faced, only Germany appears to be calmed and collected.

Just ask Fadi El Khatib and Sam Daghles... They knew the answer you want... If they recognized Alapag as best PG in late 2000s to early 2010s.. then how are you to disagree with the legend's statement...

Alam mo naman dito... There is a bias especially with Japan because they have a "good system" daw... As I said if Kawamura is a Chinese, they don't care because Pinoys hate Chinese... But they dickriding every Japanese moves....

Maybe in a few years Japan will not be underdogs. They need to start developing more NBA talent though.

we play at a much slower pace than any other national team, i think that what made us not getting blownout of the water, our inferiority in talent was somehow being negated by being more deliberate, in 2014 it was the other way around tbh i can compare this current Japan more with our 2014 team, Kawamura is effective in the system that Japan is running, the same way with Tenorio, Castro and Alapag with Chot that is why his DDO was effective with them, but these pint size point guards will not be that effective with what coach tim is running, yes in PBA La and Johnny are effective but i dont know in international games outside of Asia, let's see if Coach tim will even include RJ in the future now that he is with ginebra, and another advantage of being pint size you get a slightly favorable call as proven by some of the calls earlier toward kawamura, it's just teams rarely play in the post anymore to punish small guards, or they dont try to switch on him the same way SSD abused Steph, Ivey is really a good coach one the youngest promising international coach alongside Jordi Fernandez
