in FIDE's newly revised handbook
does it allows athletes who previously change allegiance to go back to his original NF?
we all know in FIBA and FIVB's handbook it's a no-no.
"Opps!! Sorry Man, you can't do that".

Economics is a big gatekeeper in sports excellence.
When you decide to become an athlete, you have to figure out...how will you manage to train/compete to become elite? Once you become elite, can you make a living out of it?
These questions are easier to answer/solve in developed/rich countries.
Boxing is an outlier sport for us because there are a lot of competent coaches and world-level athletes/competition within the country. No need to travel to other countries (which most other sports require) to get the necessary coaching and competing. It doesn't require much in terms of money to train as long as someone is willing to live a spartan life (which can actually even make you better at it).
And as we all know, basketball is something very viable as a means of livelihood within the country. And you do not have to be world-elite to make a livelihood out of it, one can even make a living out of barangay ligas. Which is why for better or worse, majority of our male athletes pursue it, which also means they are not pursuing other sports. It stands to reason that a lot of our basketball athletes could have been better at a different sport.

Not just win.. they have to lessen point differential if they want to advance into QF even if they lose.. as of now the PD of teams who are possibly in the 3rd placers of each group are:
Group A:
Australia + 2
Spain -5
Greece -14
Group B:
Brazil -25
Japan -24
Group C:
Serbia +15
South Sudan -6
South Sudan needs to close the game vs Serbia, to avoid minus point difference big margin.. same goes to Spain and especially to Greece, the Greeks should win big if they want to be in 3rd placer in their group... I guess one of Brazil and Japan will not make it even one of them will win, unless win big margin...
as of today these 4 teams were in the quarterfinals
USA
Germany
France
Canada

Funny thing is, he often posts pictures of himself, just wearing "sando" and he looks like really a man ( flat chested, and toned arms). Im suspecting testosterone injections, which begs the question, do they test for testosterone levels as part of Anti-Doping protocols? Also, what is the threshold of the level to be classified as a male rather than a female?
He should compete in the Men's Division if he identifies as a male right, like this boxer from Algeria, who identifies as female, and competing in the Women's side.

Fun Fact: Wesley So represented the US for 5+ years before gaining US Citizenship. So technically he was still a Filipino repping USA in FIDE tournaments. He just had his US citizenship 3 years ago.Last edited by Dotch; 08-01-2024, 01:37 PM.
