Let's just congratulate the growth of Asian basketball as a whole. Simply no more cellar dwellers in the World competitions.
They represent us and reflects the quality of our region.

let me remind you, it's just basketball, fellas.
I mean why hate? If for example Korea beats Team USA i'll be genuinely happy for them because now they give us a blueprint on how to beat the best of the best.
Theres no point yapping, "oh Korea beat Team USA, we beat Korea therefore we can beat Team USA too, we're better thAn Korea"
Sometimes it feels like we're discussing with toddlers here smh

Greetings again. I am not one of the posters you refer to when you talk about Gilas bashers. I think I was one of the few who were seeing very positive things during our losses leading up to OQT.
But I seem to recall that your stance about Japan during our long conversation was clearly about their quality. How they just got lucky in the WC draws and that they would lose badly in the Olympics and that they have no chance in hell against Brazil.
I hope you're not changing your view now that they have "zero chance" of winning against Brazil. And mind you, you made that distinction of them having "zero chance to win" which is different from "losing". They "lost" that game against France, but they clearly had "a very good chance" of winning that.
- A very bad game for France and an almost perfect game for Japan and Japan still lost the game. Just saying.
"I hope you're not changing your view now that they have "zero chance" of winning against Brazil."
- My stance will not change - Japan will lose to Brazil. People here tend to underestimate Latin American teams but they have the athleticism, strength and physicality.
Anyway, Japan is still 0-2 while France is 2-0.Attack

You know why we will always live in a hypothetical world? Because our program is run by selfish idiots who have no foresight and have gigantic egos who until now refuses to adjust to the FIBA calendar. What makes you so certain that the future will no longer be full of hypotheticals when the same trash runs the program? Our SBP can't even control the NCAA and UAAP for God's sakes.
Meanwhile in Japan, nobody can deny their program is being run better than ours. From their grassroots program, Team B, to their pro league to their selection of head coach.
Like what people said, who will take over the players who could have hypothetically beat the teams that Japan was able to beat? Our top players from the Latvia game are all older than the current Japs, specially JF. Edu is always injured. Kai alone will not replicate our Latvia magic no matter who you include in the roster.
In short, we will be hardpressed to replicate that magical win in the coming years unless something drastic is done. Cone is good but he will no longer have JF soon.
So where are we going to end up?
Japan runs their program through actions, Philippines just run their mouth.

Considering that basketball is so low on their totem pole of priorities, what they've achieved in a short time is a testament to how a well thought out program can produce results.
We should study what they are doing right instead of hating/dismissing it.

But our discussion was about this...
Robert uttered that Japan has absolutely no chance against Brazil. I said that is wrong, they have a "non-zero" chance. If we can win against Latvia, Japan can win against Brazil. There's a very clear distinction between saying something is zero probability and non-zero probability. You butted in and said Robert is right, it's a zero probability.

I wear Asics Gel-bursts when I'm hooping lately and it's way more comfy and stable than my Nike Zoom GT Hustle 2's.
If you guys check out our B League forums, there are those convinced that Kawamura is an average player without Sotto as if they depend on each other too much, not knowing he was already a 24/2/6 guy (this is 40 min-FIBA rules in the B.League) before Sotto was loaned to Yokahama.
That said, look at Japan's roster without Hawkinson, Hachimura, and Watanabe. I hate to defend the PBA board just because we got Gilas players in the B.League, but the tradeoff for having guys that know how to play with/against more than one FIBA-level player at club level is they don't have a lot of other 4's, 5's, and sometimes even 3's that you can really put in high-level FIBA competitions so they make do with those who strictly play roles as opposed to Gilas that will use a club player a coach is familiar with whether that's a retired-Japeth, TNT-Erram, or Gilastopainter-Belga before. There was no way Japan was winning that game with Hachimura fouled out and Hawkinson running on fumes.

Nonetheless, credits for Japan for a good game.
Brazil is kinda underrated in international basketball. Well, let's see. I still see Brazil winning for the reasons I stated in the previous post.Attack

As I will said again, that was a terrible game for France and an almost perfect game for Japan but France was able to get the win still.Attack

With a future without brownlee and clarkson, eventually Gilas will need to transition to an offense that revolves around the primary ball handler and a big (Kai)
We need a scoring point guard like Kawamura who can open up the floor for Kai.
RJ and Kai duo perhaps?
