Yes Spain was at USA's level, Argentina and Lithuania were OK. But the rest of the world were no where near where they are today. Even the other European countries were mediocre at best.
So when you say the world has caught up...you actually mean the whole world? Not just a few countries?

I'm not prepared to say that. Just like it has been, only a few countries are capable of beating a well-prepared/constructed team USA.

To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
      1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

I mean each continent can now send a representative that can compete with the best of the best. No more 30-50 point blowouts.

        • Again for a team like canada they need a month or so training camp( or a tim cone like incremental one) to integrate murray in their scheme of things.. the elite teams, us serbia and germany fully utilized the 3 point shot as weapon( even france does) and canada were unable to utilize it?

Before, there are atleast 3 countries who have legit chance to beat USA.. but now I see 10-12 teams who have chance to upset team USA...

True.. the worst team in the Olympics is Puerto Rico, who just upset Lithuania in OQT... Lithuania could have been better pick than Puerto Rico but they lose... Japan's performance this year is already on the level of 2008 China led by Yao Ming... There are also very good teams who are not in the Olympics (Bahamas, Latvia, Slovenia, Croatia, etc...), South Sudan's performance is the best ever in an African representative history... So yes, the international competitions is better right now compare before

Canada struggled shooting the ball, not having an inside threat makes it harder since teams can focus more on the perimeter with their defense, having an inside threat opens up the offense more

That's why France is very lucky that they already have replacements for Batum, Fournier, De Colo and Gobert.. those 4 we might saw their last games wearing France jersey.. maybe those young players might debut (except for Coulibaly and Wemby) in next year's EuroBasket... With Wemby lead the charge, they will be the primary team to challenge team USA in 2027 world cup and 2028 Olympics... This is what Spain and Argentina didn't manage to have replacements for their past golden generation.. their new players are not as good as their predecessors....

                      • It's official.. Philippines is the best ASEAN finisher for 2 straight Olympics, with 2 golds and 2 bronze.. beating Indonesia and Thailand... We are rank number 36 (tied with Hong Kong) in the world and 8th among Asian teams... Meanwhile battle between USA and China for overall medal tally is very intense until final day... China have 40 golds while USA have 38 golds.. but USA still have chance to surpass China.. they need only 2 golds to beat China again...

The ASEAN countries should remove the non-olympics sports in SEA games TBH. Look at how Vietnam dominating every SEA Games but can't even get a medal for the past 2 Olympics.

It also applies when we are the host.

Nobody plays Sepak Takraw, Arnis in Olympics.

True... Look at Vietnam, they are back to back overall champs in seagames but they are also back to back medal less performance in Olympics.. it shows how seagames become joke these days... Last seagames in Cambodia they mockering the rules by allowing multiple naturalized in all sports.. that's the reason I don't care what our standings in seagames medal tally... The focus should be in 2026 Asian games, we should break that 4 gold medal barrier that last time we achieve more than 4 golds was way beyond 1962 Jakarta games, where Philippines grabbed 7 gold medals.. I think we have a chance to break that barrier and maybe surpass 7 gold medals... My possible gold medal haul in Asian games are:

                            Weightlifting
Pole Vaulting (Obiena is unmatched here in Asia)
                            Golf
Gymnastics (Yulo alone might grab 3 or more golds)
Wushu (we won 2 golds last edition here)
                            Billiards
Boxing (I hope no more home cooking results)
Basketball (I hope we win again to show to the haters that basketball can give us achievements, hello Agot Isidro)

I actually like watching Sepak Takraw. It’s an Asean sport. Unfortunately, it seems to be too hard. It’s almost like gymnastics in how dangerous some of its moves seem to be.
