  • Pba should go back to small venues and offer free tixs especially for weekday games, that empty araneta is just bad for television

    • Oftana with 2 four-point shots, i hope he will be consistent and will have the confidence to hit open threes in the November window especially against New Zealand

I'd say I hope he can also play better defense come November, but he sometimes played 2 in the OQT. Still, better defense can help at that spot.

I'm a bit concerned about his D because he didn't defend well throughout last season. Sure, he was a go-to guy, but as a wing, defense is paramount in FIBA.

        • Watching Will Navarro for NorthPort. He's usually on RHJ (when Munzon's not there) or on the best wing like Oftana. However, his men don't usually attack him 1-on-1.

In rotations, though, he seems to lose his man or he's too deep in help. I dunno if it's because of the team defense breaking down too easily or if he's lost his timing.

there were plays that he defended RHJ well, i think in a better team with better defensive scheme can make Will the defender that he was during his stint with gilas, now i am excited to see the game between Meralco and RHJ to see if Newsome can replicate his defense against him in the Asian Games finals

Telling sign for me was that RHJ didn't attempt many shots when Will was in front. It was more the rotations I was concerned about.

Let's see how Will plays against TerraFirma, Converge, MERALCO, and Mags. MERALCO has Quinto and Newsome to play 3, and Mags and Converge have wing imports. Let's see how he does. He performs well on defense across 10 games, his chances of getting recalled go up.

                • I looked at the elims and playoff schedule, and if the PBA adopts the 6-gameday-a-week schedule for the quarterfinals, they can end the Governors' Cup on November 10 or 13 at the latest.

Whatever happens, I hope the playoffs end on November 10 or earlier.

I have been saying this all this time. He left SMC having grudges that is why his jersey still isnt retired.

IRC he spoke out against SMC. I forgot about what issue. RSA I think got hurt, because even when he was retired they had given him a business and probably other stuff. SMC pulled out those business and other perks I think. On a separate matter, IMO Danny I is a bit overrated. JMF was on his way to PBA stardom even without his training. I think the pivot with chicken wing was the move he taught JF. JF barely uses it now because obvious chicken wings are whistled even by PBA refs. As I read here Kerby Raymundo had a more effective game in internationally. Kerby should be teaching his skills. But Kerby was not at the level of Danny I in the PBA.

It is interesting how it changes the PBA game. Fiba has a shorter 3 pt line and with the absence of defensive 3 seconds the court seems to be smaller. Generally small guards are not as effective as say in the NBA. A 4 pt line might give more spacing and balance the Fiba/PBA game a bit to faster players even in the half court.

It might get our defenders to hustle out. Our teams just need to organize the defensive rotations.

That hustle might translate to FIBA. Our guys will go out and challenge and contest shots.

                          • If the leaders in the PBA truly want their best players to excel in FIBA, they should fully adopt FIBA rules. There's no need to add any unnecessary "gimmicks." I'm sure the fans will return if they see the changes they want.

They trying so bad to be NBAish.

Our basketball culture just needs to mold our best players to be good to great FIBA players. However, we don't see much utility for tall long defensive wings except maybe Gabe Norwood. 198-203cm (6'6"-6'8") players who are versatile on defense (switch defense, team defense) aren't emphasized as well. Only recently have higher-scoring 6'5"+ wings like Arvin and Oftana emerged, but they're just two players. Japeth, Erram, Bates, June Mar and maybe Almazan and Laput are probably the only true local rim protectors.

We don't have an abundance of FIBA-level defensive wings, versatile defensive 198-203cm forwards, and rim protectors. We need to have more of those (although local rim protection isn't that possible with the materials we have; we'll have to rely on imports).

                              • PBA the only league with no live stats and box scores. I doubt they will be able to find any software that can support their stupid 4 point shot.
