  • I think PBA teams on average is the oldest within East Asia… yes 25 or 26 years old rookies are typical when players on that ages in rival leagues in the region are already veterans…We have a larger proportion of over 35 year oldies than our East Asian neighbours.

Oh yeah. In fact only 1 PBA-based player in the last Gilas roster in the last FIBA window, is under 30 y.o. ( Oftana at 28). The next best PBA players that could crack future rosters are of the same age bracket. Malonzo ( 28) and Tolentino ( 29)

      • Schonny just torched Scotty, honestly feels like Cone hasnt learned much from his mistakes vs the TNT series, RJ was playing well but is taken out on the crucial minutes.

        • Balti was also benched in the end. He is gonna take some time to adjust to the PBA. Hopefully much faster than Munzon.

          • Converge is making a habit of giving up double digit deficits and winning at the end. This game it was Stockton who started the comeback from a 17 pt deficit. Arana also scored in the paint. When Stockton sat it was Schonny Winston's turn to start and single man run. He scored 11 pts in the 4th quarter 9 pts straight. Heading did not do much in this game. But that's why arguably having the best guard combo in the PBA comes to play. The other two guys made up for it. GSM is no slouch in the guard department but somehow they were outplayed. Only Ahanmisi really played well. Thompson disappeared in the 4th and Holt was absent the whole game.

Balti was again not felt much on offense. He doesn't have the strength or explosiveness to be decisive in the paint. He played decent defense on Brownlee. But he needs to develop his offensive game. I don't think patterning his game on Lakay will help. With his frame he is a good switchable defender. He loses that if he bulks up like Arana to play in the paint.

            • Charles is there so hopefully Balti will learn whats best for him, though the looming news of Pineda as HC will not be good for his development

That is why I think Converge owns the best backcourt trio in the PBA at present. The rotation of Stockton, Winston & Heading is just awesome. It's a luxury that any other PBA team can only dream of. I guess the 3 have been playing harmoniously so far. No discord, disgruntlement or jealousy it seems. Hope they continue to play like that.

I feel "panghihinayang" for Stockton that he isn't FIBA eligible. He would have been the perfect point guard backup for Iskati Thompson in Gilas. I think Stockton has already reached his prime. With some experience playing in the high level, he will get better.

                  • Looks like SMB are defending better under Austria.

Ginebra cant take everyone but it would be smart to go the best coach in the Philippines today.

there should be a rule that the 1st four draft picks overall should stay in the team that drafted them for at least 3 years.

                          • generally yes I do agree that parity should still be exercised within the league but I have given up on that and is now encouraging any actions that will benefit Gilas ie QMB going to Cone instead of the hapless Terrafirma. PBA is just an avenue for GIlas to me these days.

I think there used to be a rule like that in the PBA some years ago. But cguro na realize ng mga taga SMC (& maybe MVP group) that such rule strongly prevents them from doing what they want. Na notice nalang natin such rule isn't implemented anymore.

If QMB is indeed FIBA eligible as he claims, then I won't mind him going to an SMC team. But if it turns out he's not FIBA eligible, then I would want him to go to teams like Phoenix, Converge or NLEX.
