    Homer Sayson

The search to replace Josh Reyes as Gilas Youth coach appears to be shallow as a kiddie pool.
One extremely qualified coach was interviewed and then quickly removed from consideration allegedly because he is an outsider, sources told.

A private entity, SBP can choose whatever it wants.

But instead of insisting on selecting from a small carousel of familiar faces, what's the harm in exploring what the big, wide coaching world has to offer?

The brains behind the most successful basketball programs in the are not purely local.

    Ginebra. Meralco. Ateneo.

    Just a thought.

I think they have to find a sufficient backer first before they find a coach. A lot of the problems can be fixed by a good backer.

The SMC already handles the SBP now right? or just the seniors? I mean the SMC is a backer itself.

        • Youth basketball can be abit of a fruitless endeavour, of course its important to expose our youth to international competition but theres no certainty if these kids will be able to develop as senior players. Not saying we should give up the endeavour but I understand the apprehension from stakeholders.

The Josh Reyes era was plagued by funding issues.

Talent fluctuates as well every batch, Kai’s generation was a really good batch with size and talent. Caelum, Konov, Bayla generation wasn’t bad but didn’t have a next level talent like Kai, if Yuto Kawashima didn’t exist they could have gone to the World Cup. And the most recent batches have only had 1 or 2 guys that are really talented

              • I want Rajko Toroman to Coach our u16 and u18 .. I'm watching the MPBL playoffs right now Pampanga versus San Juan and I saw Troman bring a Serbian trainer to help the Pampanga Delta. I like what Dennis Pineda doing bringing Serbian trainer to help the Kampangan.

Conflict of interest. Toroman is under the payroll of SGA and Delta. And we all know which schools SGA and Delta support.

                  • there are 2 dilemmas of a narrative that's bugging the ill-fated Gilas-under boys team.

the Pirates of the Caribbean storyline of now Cong. Franz and coach Eric Altamirano of then NU program

then the Sandy Arespacho's stint where the so-called "The Loose Cannon bros." was coined and overwhelmed

the "Generalizational Talent" storyline at that time.

then enter the "Dayunyur" storyline wherein my tears literally falls without notice when our hapless "it it kids" was

literally bulldozed by the other lads and resulted to that historic blowout games.

that is why fans like me coined the "Never Again" storyline.

now, the previously "Open Secret" discussion on lack of financial support and lukewarm treatment of the stakeholders

on the boy's program is now really "Open" excluding the "Secret" word.

many people are clamoring that a foreign coach with a competitive resume as far as youth basketball is the first order of things

to start the "Year Right" and somehow starts the new program on the right foundation.

now it boils down again to that "show me the money" thing and the Grandpas are not that enthusiastic on that

because "The Gilas Senior Mens Team" is the very top priority no questions ask.

names like Sean Chambers, Jimmy Alapag, Alex Compton, Ronnie Magsanoc, Tab Baldwin, Rajko Toroman among others

                    keeps on popping nowadays.

now let the new ED decides on everything about the boys program

because she admits issues like this makes here literally(sticky) sweat just like the previous issues when DDO Sr. stepdown

after that very very forgettable "WC 2023 experience".

                      • Tenorio should take over so there will be synergy between the youth and senior teams. And he won't be having problems with money since he is an Alfrancis man.

                        • Already, they're dubbing the next year's team as the second tallest ever, might have a 6'11 or 7'0 next year, but talent wise,it's not as talented as the Kai and Co years.

Who might that 6'11"/7'0" player be next year? With so many avid Gilas fans, we should have an idea of who he is by now. Maybe he's already been featured on Zero Buckets. Unless, of course, the SBP is keeping him a secret to prevent opponents from getting wind of him.
