Exactly my point. When a 6'1" 11-year-old is dominating smaller, 5-foot kids at center, it's not really surprising anymore. It would actually be surprising if the kid played as a guard or an agile wing, as he wouldn’t need to adjust if he stays the same height. However, when he's playing center against much shorter kids, it looks too easy, but can't blame the kid—he’s just following the coach's instructions.

Which is why as much as those fil-nigerian kids are so advance compare to their counterparts, it is hard to see them doing it in the future if they stays as 6'1 and still plays as big.

and this is why I want to see them play in th coming NBTC, i have only seen bits and pieces of Freedom in the vids. Sam has a game or 2 from last years MPBPBA Jr (firgit which league) aside from the current vis we can search. both, specially Freedom, are comfortable attacking the basket from the dribble. finishing isnt good but they get their own rebound and finish from there. both also has some jumpshot to speak of. i agree though that most of their pts come from inside, not a surprise since they are taller and stronger. but as long as whatever school they are in, if they let the kids attack the basket and do some mid range every game, they should be just fine if\when they grow taller.

      • I hope that with Brian Stevenson 6'6 and Kai Patton 6'4 inclusion on that main Fil-Am Nation team would be enough for CLA to give them a slot on the roster. This might be just the best time to get them lock in to the program while they are here in PH. I mean other than them, I don't think we have the best 09 born fil-foreign out there, so putting them into the U16 team would be enough I guess.

Currently coming off the Japan’s national U15 tournament where he averaged 36.4 PPG 20.4 RPG 2.4 APG 2.6 BPG Including back to back 50 point games to secure third place for Yokkaichi Maryknoll. The 6’5 wing was the youngest player ever to suit up for Japan’s U18 team this summer in the FIBA U18 AsiaCup. Really good shooter with great feel, could possibly be the next best Japanese prospect since Rui Hachimura. Has been breaking all sorts of records in Japan".

Chusonjakku Shiratani, remember the name, will definitely be the best player of Japan U16 this coming tournament. He was also the main center (was 6'2 that time) of Japan U16 whom the Kiefer-led U16 beat. He is just 14 yr old that time but was one of the starters.

After the U16, he was also included on their U18 with minimal role.

Right now, he looks like he is already playing as wing compare to his playstyle last 2 years ago where his job was only to get a rebound. On his highlights, he looks like he has no competition at all, dominating the highschool tournament with 36.5PPG, 20.4RPG, 2.4APG AND 2.6 BPG.

I am curious who will going to stop him if we are going to get group with Japan again. Might be another 2022 U16 Yuto Kawashima-esque again.

He is 6'5 right now, so we might have bigs who can contain him, but the way he plays right, I won't consider him a big anymore.

If he somehow reach 6'8 and up, another Hachimura type of play might be coming.

            • Just finished watching Kainoa Patton's and Brian Stevenson's 1st game in the NBTC. Both should be seriously considered in our final U16 line-up especially Patton. Kid is just way above the competition. Crazy talent for a 16-year-old. No wonder he's a blue-chip prospect for his class in the US.

I heard Patton has yet to secure a Philippine passport.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

I tried asking his Mom, bad thing is he does not have it yet, good thing is they are already working on it now.

I don't have an idea how long it is usually to get a Philippine Passport in US, but his birthday is on June so clock is ticking already.

He probably needs a backer to do it ASAP. Hope they know what to do. Gopez and crew probably know it more, Although I remember the story of Taylor Browne, ex Alaska player. He got his citizenship 2 days before his 18th birthday since his papers where in order. No idea on passport but citizenship before 18 for sure. The extension is if the mother has to regain citizenship first. Then its mother's citizenship before the kids citizenship. But they are trying so hope all will be well.

His mother is aware of the PH Passport since last year, which was Kai's first stint in NBTC. Maybe they had some processes to handle first which might be the citizenship thing before processing his passport by now.

It would really suck if they won't make it on time tbh. We already missed out on Harrison Jones.

I hope coach LA's camp will assist him, or better yet expedite his application for him to be able to join the team before the upcoming Asia cup.

I think CLA needs to lock his spot up already in SEABA U16, just to get ahead of USA. I remember JJ was invited in US youth training camp after his NBTC stint. Might be the same scenario with Patton since he is already gaining interest on national level in US.

Doesnt even need to be LA. Gabe is an assistant coach and is probably a better envoy to the FilAms since he has an impressive american resume(Final Four with George Mason).

Oh yeah, I forgot about him. He was also watching from the stands when the U16 clinched the U17 WC when they beat Japan, so he must really know how big the youth program is.
