Absent the SBP allowing him, the soc gen will have to decide if UAE pushes things.

There's been some Philippine athletes that got naturalize before, this one won't be any different they can't stop him.

      • There must be a sorr of release from the SBP as he had played for the Philippines Mens Team previously

        • Strong Group beats Beirut Club by around 20 pts a few hours ago. This Beirut team is even stronger than Homenetmen as it has 2 key players of the Lebanese national team in Ali Haidar & Sergio El Darwich. Plus it has Jordan national team naturalized player Dar Tuvker as 1 of its imports.

While Kevin Quiambao continues to play very well with Strong Group, another Strong Group Pinoy local player that deserves some credit is Jordan Heading. Heading scored well in Strong Group's win over Beirut.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Hell Escandor became Gilas material for one game but we know he is not really one based on his body of work.

I like KQ because of how far his skill has gone as a home grown but on most matchups I would still take Ramos as starting SF because of defense and superior handles.
From what I understand, Quiambao cannot play for another national team without clearance from SBP since he has already played for Gilas in a FIBA tournament which was the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup.

              Correct.

Didn't Christian Stanhardinnger need a release from the German basketball federation before he can suit for Gilas since he has played for the German youth national team in a FIBA youth tournament in Europe?

                • KQ is already locked in gilas, he already played in our senior NT team no need to worry in my opinion.

it doesn't make sense with all their money they can get much much better player than KQ, if they want their NT to improve.

I also believe UAE interest is for him to be a local in their local leagues and attract pinoy followers.

                  • This is just pure assumption on my part (because there is really limited info)...

Did UAE emphasize whether they want KQ for their national team or they just want him in their pro league?

If it's just to be able to play in their league, then it's possible for him to be a dual-citizen and still remain with Gilas. UAE doles out special "passports" for employment/investor purposes. It's not the same as the "family book" citizenship.

Just like JGDL who used his Spanish citizenship to play in Europe while still being eligible for Gilas. And I think all or most of the filams are dual-citizens.

Yes, it’s entirely up to KQ if he wants to change his citizenship. BUT he will need SBP clearance before he can play for the UAE Men’s Team.

                          • this KQ's naturalizing is overhyping. KQ is smart and knows his basketball. basketball wise in UAE is sucks. money is good but in basketball as whole its bad. even they had american naturalized players in the past they can't get even get the hump in their region. in practical way i'll accept the club offer in UAE (club and NT) easy path (money) and there's no standard competition in UAE. what if they decide to get a new NP in the future . His eligibility might put in peril as asian quota in case he change his mind. But playing in asian leagues, NBL-australia (rumor) and playing for gilas at the sametime i'll stay. i have money, development, competition and international exposure (FIBA and overseas).

it will depend on how substantial the offer is, how much does kq get from lasalle anyway? P2.4M (USD42K) a year? that's peanuts, them sheiks can easily double that, it won't be farfetched to think that uae is willing to cough up USD300K a year for kq. i also don't see any technicality that can compromise his eligibility in the bleague, so sky's the limit for kq to earn while he's still relatively young.

                              • if KQ gets UAE citizenship, he can still suit ip for Gilas as a local right? No way UAE will field him as their NT for FIBA tournaments if there are better options
