Looks like a logistics issue of some sort. Seems like theres a lack of venue available. Prolly the reason why the vball tournament this year(1st round anyway) will be played in various school gyms.

          • Who are the players to watch in the NCAA juniors? I think Nathan Velasquez is the only one with a Gilas stint (kindly tell if there is another). Aries Borja and LJ Daep are still playing, right? Also, this is where we’ll see if Owen Calanasan has improved.

            • Mapua as host for the 2nd half of the season sucks big time. No venues yet to host the games. Pabaya.

Noah Banal is another batang gilas player, assuming he makes the red robins lineup. Letran's basti reyes is another (bahay's batch if im not mistaken).

My list besides who you've mentioned
letran - syrex silorio, daniel padilla, qyntrell magcale (6'3 filfor guard) , Daryl Valdevilla (ex upis leaeing scorer), arwin alforque
mapua -dwynne miranda (ex baby tam), sean salvador, drei gragasin
eac - ej castillo, ian cuajao (deo's bro)
lsgh - gillian quines, Ram Sharma (carlo's son), andre bautista (ex baby falcon recruit), james ison
uphsd - jan rolina, jd pagulayan, izee callangan
san beda - mj vailoces, laurence batongbakal, francis dollente, anthony ugaddan

Not sure anymore for the other schools.

Read a letran article in their fb account dated today that the squires will play lpu on feb 24. Im assuming the opening is this weekend.

I forgot about Basti, I thought he is already college since all of his batchmates are college already. Also Ram Sharma seems to be that tall guy that Zero Buckets showed few years ago, I wonder if he got taller. I also thought Dwyne went to Letran, I hope he will do well together with that 6'8 Tagocon (if the latter will get minute). Anyway thanks for providing me info, looks like the big names for youth are still mostly in the UAAP jrs. Although I still believe the batak probinsyano guys in NCAA are better lol.

Basti was the youngest in that batch, i think he'll only be 20 this year. Ram has grown taller every year, right now he's 6'6, might still grow a couple inches pa, he's only 17 or 18. Dwyne initially was supposed to go to letran but moved to mapua instead.

How many of those kids have Gilas potential, and in what position?

The players I said above are the ones who I think have gilas potential. LJ Daep (6'7 who can play as a wing) have the biggest chance. Aries Borja seems to play as big even though he is only 6'7 so that's a red flag for gilas already. I can't think of any guards there who has the potential to be gilas yet because we have a bunch of guards lining up who are definitely better than the ones mentioned above (Andy Gemao, Kiefer Alas, James Sanderson if given a chance). So these guy will be the priority I think.

There are projects though, Owen Calanasan 6'10, and John Tagocon 6'9. The gilas stint depends on their development. Ram Sharma also plays as a big despite being only 6'6, that lowers his chance.

In fairness to coach renren ritualo, even if sharma was their tallest guy in the lineup last year, he still allowed him to play more off the dribble so ball handling is there, defensively while he is rail thin, he had no problems staying in front of his man. If he is able to have a consistent outside shot, i think he can develop into legit wing player. Hopefully they'll give calanasan big minutes this season so that sharma can slide down to atleast the 4 spot.

Yeah, he really needs to slide down to 4. I hope he will get taller but I already doubt it. He is 6'6 already in 2022 when he was 15 years old, he is 17 now, going 18 in April so that sums up his growth spurt is already done. I just hope he would be able to play 3/4 atleast. He is quick enough anyway.

I think the LSGH is known to utilize their big anyway (Seven, Pablo) so there will be a chance Owen might have minutes.

It will still depend on how ready owen is along with his conditioning. My best case scenario is he gets 20 mins max off the bench. Kudos to him tho, he looks in shape and was decent in their tuneup against the green archers.
