A small program like SBU needs to prudent in spending its resources. We dont engage in bidding wars. The success of the program does not depend on one or players but rather the battle tested system that has been implemented in 2004.

Besides things like this happen whether the player is poached or decides to go pro. The only difference with SBU and the others, We always find ways to win.

Bryan Sajonia was playing behind LJ Gonzales and Xyrus Torres. RC Calimag was playing behind Harold Alarcon, Cyril Gonzales, Gerry Abadiano and James Spencer. Bismarck Lina was playing behind Carl Tamayo, Zav Lucero, Henry Galinato and Malick Diouf. Penny Estacio was playing behind Evan Nelle, Mark Nonoy, and Schonny Winston.

Poaching is different. Why the hell would DLSU recruit Baclaan and Cortez if they have a tons of guards already (LPU’s Rubico, LSGH’s Alian, SBU’s Marasigan, Mitchell from US, the 2 Fil-Ams who just commited). DLSU is hoarding players just to hoard players. Do they even have a plan for those players? The Robert Bolick situation. Bolick was playing behind LA Revilla and Almond Vosotros . During Season 77, Revilla graduated then enter Kib, and Thomas Torres and Julian Sargent. Heck even Season 76, Bolick was playing behind them. The plan for Bolick is to relegate him to Team B and gain his confidence back but, the real reason is Andrei Caracut and Enzo Navarro will be lined up. Berto goes to San Beda and the rest is history. Remember Oda Tampus?

Apparently the Cortez move to DLSU is a family package deal. If the rumor is true it includes younger brother Mikey Cortez. The dad Mike Cortez will be hired as part of the coaching staff.

Mike Cortez is also probably looking for job security. His coaching gig in the PBA Blackwater will not probably last that long as we all know how volatile that position is. That is probably why dad Mike also talked to UST and SMC.

Jacob also gets to work with his Ninong Mon Jose at Taft. So it’s a family reunion at Taft for them.

Bolick was never poached. In fact he was already practicing with Ateneo when CMJ recruited him to play for San Beda. Poaching happens when you entice a player to transfer while he is still committed to another school.

If I were in the shoes of the Cool Cat, instead of DLSU I'd consider UST more if he's looking to be part of any coaching staff as I doubt Pido will remain as head coach after another losing season with Juno Sauler recently added as an assistant. No way any of the coaches in DLSU will be replaced anytime soon regardless of Mike's past accolades. Better to go to UST where his entry will be seen as an upgrade.

Mike was also part of Mikey's HS coaching staff.

At the end of the day, it's really special for brothers to be able to play together. If this is really what Jacob wants, then more power to him.

DLSU also afforded this to the Phillips bros even if it's only Mike that's really the prospect.
