  • As awful as San Beda’s offense early this season looks, their defense is also mostly absent in a game. Players just blow pass them easily for open layups. Shooters from the outside are rarely challenged. Closeouts are usually late, leading to defensive breakdowns.

The problem with Payosing is that he seems not fit to play his current role. Last year he was just an energy guy who’s willing to do the dirty work. Now he looks as if he wants to lead the team but he has obvious limitations (including a relatively weak BBIQ).

Nygel is also having a disappointing start of the season. Maybe he has an injury that is bogging him. But whenever he is on the court, the offense seems to stagnate. He usually dribble-pass at the top or beyond the 3pt line. Paint touches and dribble penetration are almost non existent. But the same goes as well with all the PGs of the team, so could be a system issue.

Now with an almost offensively impotent Center position and a passive PG spot, defenses will just really need to guard the wing spot, they can also just stay on the shooters.

They do not have any closer in their current team. Opposing team only need to guard their shooter like Sajonia and Yukien, double puno and game is ez af. No inside threats too. Celzo and Songcuya are bums. Payosing, more like "PAYASO"ing like srsly what happened to that guy? Why did he stop taking jump shots? Whoever pointed out that all of this problem started in the pre season is right. Your team lost its best player and 3 big man and still opted to use team b instead of building chemistry is just insane. Keep this kind of performance and kiss championship good bye. Can't wait for season 101 to come, guys like tagle and tagala will be gone by then. Good riddance!
Red Lions in 2023 were the best defensive team in the NCAA. IIRC, Pong Ducanes posted before the Finals that SBU was the number 1 in Points Allowed per game and I think number 2 in 2-pt FG% allowed. So they were really a good team defensively.

Jacob Cortez was the leading scorer but did not even make the Mythical Five because of his high turnover per game and low assists.

Gone are starting PG Peter Alfaro, number 2 shot blocker Jopia (Magullano of EAC was the leading shot blocker) and shooting big man Damie Cuntapay.

          • Watching the benilde-lpu replay, wow i gotta say Justin Sanchez maturity is a sight to behold. As one of who isint a fan of his game, he's been reliable for csb in its past games. Gone are the days where he pulls up and takes ill advised jumpers, instead he's becomimg patient within the offense and not forcing shots. Using his unique blend of size and skill. He has become more deadlier off the dribble and has become a threat in the post, back at the basket. If he continues to grow. I wont be surprised if he liwag and ynot leave and turn pro early. They should be solid pro prospects, might even attract foreign teams as well.

They maybe the best defensive team in season 99 but not this season. Come on, Jacob carried the lions in his back the whole season 99. Without his scoring prowess, we would not make it into the finals. Now we have Mr. Inconsistent in Sajonia, a bum shooter in Tagle and bum big man in Celzo and Songcuya. Yuri wants to play hard mode this season. Could've taken etulle or hawkin instead of tagala and sollano, heck even jalbuena is a bum. Hawkins might be raw but at least he would be a dog in grabbing rebounds plus he could score inside the paint unlike celzo.

Mapua Cardinals are still far from their peak but they are getting there. The team have 10 rookies, a number of players are still immature in committing useless fouls, decision making and even Clint sometimes overshoots, Aaron Fermin re-injured his knee last pre-season. Plus, JC Recto is recovering from Chicken pox (may loose the 2 remaining games in the 1st round: AU, SBC)

Good to see the 2 alumni foundations have big big support not only to the basketball team but to the other sports like volleyball, swimming, badminton, football, as well supporting students in different papers overseas.

                  • Big pair of games tom. Baste maybe on a 5 game losing streak, but something tells they'll turn it up a notch tom against benilde. Might be a closer game than anyone may think. And of course San Beda v Letran. Big test for letran, while a must win for Beda.

                      Graduating:
Aaron Fermin - one and done
                      Joaqui Garcia
                      Rodman Fornis (reserve)

                      Conditional:
Clint Escamis - depending on S100 result and if KBL/B-League will come into fruition
TJ Abdullah - possible on the bubble, with Cyril Gonzales and Ivan Lazarte’s arrival for S101, TJ may be on his wayout or if he will return to team B.
Arjay Pantaleon - same situation with TJ

Letran is on a high (3-game winning streak) while San Beda are having trouble mentally (inconsistent).

Make or break moment for SBU. I'm hoping Lina can play tomorrow.

If san beda can out shoot letran in 3's, limit letran's bigs, especially Santos and javillonar, and lessen their 2nd chance points, it will be a winnable game for them. Imo luck has been a big factor in that 3 game win streak, 2pt wins against benilde and eac, tas triple ot game naman against the perps. In all 3 games letran was behind in the turnover battle and pts in paint.
